Iceland: low cost travel

Who said you can't go to Iceland without spending a fortune? Here are all the tips to save and enjoy this wonderful land to the fullest.

Air, earth, fire and water. These are the four elements that make up everything in nature and which in my opinion find full expression in Iceland, where between geysers, volcanoes, thermal waters, ice, it is possible to have a holiday for every type of person.
With the post we want to try to see if it is really possible to go to Iceland - considered one of the most expensive European countries - without spending a fortune. For ease of reading, the post will be divided into sections.

I state that I have not yet had the opportunity to visit Iceland, therefore the prices reported have been extrapolated from research on the net.

How to get to Iceland

Among the various existing companies, the cheapest way to get to Reykjavick is Wow Air, Icelandic airline, founded in November 2011 by Skuli Mogensen.
The company's name is itself a promise, as wow is the final exclamation the carrier aims to achieve through low prices, punctual flights, and less fuel-efficient vehicles. Its fleet consists of Airbus A320s, which are also chosen by many other companies.

From Italy, Wow Air leaves from Milan Malpensa airport. When I started collecting information for the post, I had found a flight for late November, early December for € 169. In promotion on the company's website you can find flights for € 109.

Where stay

There are three structures that attract our attention for their excellent value for money, to which is added the proximity to the city center of Reykjavik: the first three hundred meters, the second four hundred and almost three kilometers the third. Prices range from 85, 86 up to 105 €. One of them is an aparthotel, consisting of seven apartments, each with kitchenette, wifi, private bathroom, television and free toiletries.

What to see in Iceland

There are many naturalistic beauties, all reachable by car, which is the most practical way to move around Iceland along the Ring Road, the Golden Circle, 1332 kilometers long. Therefore it would be advisable to organize the tour in stages according to the days of stay.
Among the stops, we suggest you as a stop not to be missed, the spa of the Blue Lagoon, whose waters gush from two thousand meters below the surface. The water temperature is between 37 ° and 40 ° C.

The blue color is given by the presence of three ingredients: silica, algae and minerals. For a premium treatment the price is 10200 Icelandic crowns, equal to about 83 €, the comfort treatment is 8100 Icelandic crowns, equal to 64 €. The second option includes entry, silica and seaweed mask, use of towels and a drink of your choice. The premium also includes a reservation at the restaurant with sparkling wine, a pair of slippers and a bathrobe.

Getting around

As mentioned, the most practical way to visit Iceland is by car, to be rented directly on site. There are four car rentals at Keflavick Airport to choose from, whose sites can be reached directly from the airport site.
