What to see in Lanzarote: spectacular volcanic landscapes, quiet white sand beaches and tropical landscapes, all of this is Lanzarote.
One of the islands ofarchipelago of the Canary Islands, located about 100 km from the African coast which owes its name to Lanzarotto Malocello, the Genoese navigator, who first discovered it in 1312 and who occupied it for some time. The climate of Lanzarote is hot and dry due to the hot winds coming from the Sahara, the ocean waters are instead mitigated thanks to the current coming from the Gulf of Mexico.
The island is well connected thanks toGuacimenta airport Arrecife, reached by several low cost airlines departing from the main international cities, moreover, Arrecife is also the main port that makes it easy to connect with the other islands of the archipelago.
Lanzarote it has a very suggestive landscape where lunar landscapes are contrasted, due to volcanic activity, golden sand beaches and cultivated fields, but also sub tropical vegetation. All this particular environment has made the island a "World Biosphere Reserve" due to its intact, almost primitive nature and the presence of the Timanfaya volcano, which dominates the entire island and stands on over 300 craters and expanses of lava.
Tourism in Lanzarote is very well managed, providing top quality services with well-equipped beaches, wellness centers and entertainment venues. Well-equipped and functional are the centers and structures dedicated to sport that allow in particular to practice water sports and the opportunity for golf lovers to practice their sport even during the winter.
The main town on the island is Reef, which has never been marred by the tourist constructions that have been added and developed over time, but has continued to maintain the traditional aspect.
The other tourist spots are Puerto del Carmen which is located slightly south of Arrefice and is an excellent starting point for those who want to explore the south of the island and take a day trip to Corralejo, a tourist resort of Fuerteventura reachable in 30 minutes by ferry. Puerto del Carmen was once a quiet fishing village now transformed into the main tourist resort on the island, full of clubs and entertainment venues suitable for both young and old. North of the capital is the Costa Teguiste where most of the beaches are clear. This location is convenient in case you want to visit the caves of Jameos del Agua and Cueva de los Verdes.
In the southern part of the island it is located Playa Blanca, a place recognized as the most peaceful and relaxing place on the island. Here there are numerous shops, bars and restaurants where you can taste excellent fish dishes. A few km from Playa Blanca is located Papagayo Beach, a seaside resort characterized by its white beaches, an easy point in case you want to take an excursion to the Timanfaya Park, the famous mountain of fire.
Speaking of Lanzarote, I cannot forget the food and wine aspect. The island is in fact famous for the production of an excellent wine there Malvasia which is produced with a very particular technique through the realization of Gerie, of the circular walls made by man to repair the cultivation of vines from the wind, a hole is dug in the center of the gerie and inserted the vine. On these large fields of gerie volcanic ash is spread, which allows to retain the nocturnal humidity which will then be released during the day allowing the plant to survive thanks to the right amount of humidity. The typical products of the place are mainly tropical products, from exotic fruit to palm honey, while a local dish is papas arrugadas, typical Canarian potatoes that are boiled and served with garlic sauce and yogurt or served with spicy sauces.
If you visit this fantastic island, do not forget to buy or try aloe vera products, widely cultivated and once considered sacred.
I just have to wish you a good trip!
