Il Park Guell di Barcelona become for payment from the next October 2013: the Adjutament of the Catalan city decided and announced it, after repeated postponements and controversies by the Catalans.
The reasons behind the initiative would be related to decorum and to maintenance of the tourist site: through the project based on the regulation of the accesses to the fences, we would try to improve the quality of life in the neighborhood and the conditions of the park. Only the inhabitants of the area who are registered in the appropriate registers will be able to access the area, but limited to specific time slots that will vary according to the seasons. For tourists, admission will be 8 euros if purchased on site and 7 euros if purchased in advance.
The measure is aimed at gathering a maximum number of 800 visitors per hour, but also at creating 50 new jobs: an objective that should not be underestimated for a Catalunya in a severe economic crisis.
Despite this, part of the Catalan citizens and they did not decide to express their dissent through the social network Change.org: the project entitled Defensem el Park Guell has collected thousands of signatures but aims to reach 100000.
Park Guell is one of the main tourist destinations of the Catalan capital: the work of the architect Antonio Gaudì, has been recognized by Unesco as a World Heritage Site. The project had been commissioned to Gaudì in the early twentieth century by Eusebi Guell following the latter's purchase of this part of the hill overlooking the city. Only in 1922 the park was bought by the city of Barcelona which made it public.
