Dreaming of a trip to Polynesia? Read the post and find out the best time to leave and how to organize your stay.
My trip to Polynesia it was undoubtedly the most beautiful I've ever done. I had the chance to make a dream come true and see a real paradise on earth between crystal clear waters and breathtaking vegetation. The best time to go to Polynesia is during the austral winter, that is our summer. This is the driest period (June to October) in which the humidity is very low.
The temperature in this period is cooler and is between 28/29 ° during the day. July is perhaps the perfect month to travel to Polynesia when the celebrations of theHeiva, which for Tahiti are the equivalent of the Brazilian carnival.
How to reach French Polynesia
French Polynesia can be reached by plane from practically all over the world and you can choose two routes, one passes through USA, the other way Sydney and New Zealand. All international flights land at the airport of Faa'a in Tahiti from where internal flights will then depart for the other islands of the Polynesian archipelago. As for flights, my advice is to book well in advance as it is easier to find tickets with lower prices. Obviously, for international flights and internal passes you must budget at least a minimum of 2500 euros per person.
Travel organization
For some, organizing a “do it yourself” trip could be an arduous and difficult undertaking, especially if we are talking about destinations such as Polynesia. But that's not the case, of course you can always rely on an agency and let them advise you. First you have to choose the island or islands where you would like to stay during your vacation. Just think that Polynesia has 118 of them.
Once you have chosen the island or islands you will have to think about accommodation. To Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora and Rangiroa you can easily find 4 or 5 star hotels, but also guest houses managed directly by local people. In the latter it is possible to fully breathe Polynesian life.
If you prefer the less traveled islands, I can recommend you Maupiti and Tahaa / Raiatea or le Austral islands, which have been opening up to tourism for a short time and are still unspoiled.
Whatever your departure city, your flight will arrive atTahiti airport. Here if you have the opportunity to stop, I suggest you take a trip to the center of Papeete. The municipal market in the center of Papeete is the beating heart of the city. The island of Tahiti it's very big and Papeete is only a small part of it so if you have time, hire a car and take a nice drive.
To move between the islands of French Polynesia you can use the plane or sea transport of any kind. There are buses and taxis on the island of Tahiti. While on the other islands you can find cars, scooters and bicycles for hire, all ideal means for exploration. Only in some more remote islands the movements still take place thanks to animals such as horses.
