For Catalans, fun a Barcelona it is certainly not in the clubs along Las Ramblas or in the discos of the MareMagnum which, in most cases, they despise in no uncertain terms! During my period of study in Barcelona I lived with two Catalans who made me discover my absolute favorite club: la Razzmatazz room in Carrer de Pamplona (Metro stop Bogatell or Marina) built inside a disused industrial building, with an unmistakable facade, also used as a set for numerous advertisements.
Five rooms (Razzclub, The Loft, Lolita, Popbar, Rexroom) each of which specializes in a genre of music. Since 2000, the year of its foundation, the Razzmatazz has seen passing internationally renowned artists and DJs who have often found their springboard here, but also exponents of the independent music scene.
This is where I spent the more special evenings of my stay and where I met the music of Franz Ferdinand, The Strokes, Artic Monkeys and The Killers. Another place that impressed me and that my Catalan friends made me discover is here Apollo Room (Carrer Nou de La Rambla - Paral-lel Metro stop) built in a former theater where you can attend concerts or evenings with themed DJ sets. Our favorite was the Wednesday with selections of rap and reggae music, but a few years have passed and so I suggest you check out the rich programming on the highly updated site.
