Away from the summer confusion and mass tourism: discovering the most authentic nature of this beautiful island!
Tenerife in winter, Does it seem strange to you?
Me too, until recently. I spent the Christmas holidays here this year and I discovered many interesting things that I want to share with you.
Tenerife is one of the best known of the Canary Islands, in the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Morocco.
This island has been a destination for tourists of all nationalities for over twenty years, and is also a refuge for many Italian expats (and not only!) Who have rebuilt their lives here, or who simply enjoy their retirement.
In summer, of course, the island is besieged by vacationers in search of sun and beaches and there is certainly no shortage of services for every need. The cost of living is sustainable and the inhabitants are quite hospitable.
Away from mass tourism
Tenerife in winter, however, is much less known and frequented by Italian tourists ... The British instead frequent it all right, and indeed many Northern Europeans come to "winter" here, do you understand the smart ones?
Then, what to expect from a holiday in Tenerife in winter? Indeed, many beautiful things!
1. Beach life
First of all, in Tenerife it is never winter. At Christmas it's spring, it's sunny, the sky is clear, not too windy and it's hot. Yes, you got it right! 25 ° is easily reached.
One of the things you can do in Tenerife in winter is go to the sea.
During the day the sun warms the air so much that on cloudless days you are in a bathing suit, lazily curled up on the beach beds, if you have the intelligence to choose a sheltered beach… remember we are on an island!
I also took a bath, and many European tourists do it without problems. Sure the ocean water is cold, but it's an exciting thrill to experience at least once.
2. Boat excursions
Another beautiful thing to do in Tenerife in winter is spot whales.
There are many excursions that depart from the port of Los Cristianos and that will allow you to get close to these magnificent creatures.
Many other excursions will take you to spot dolphins or visit neighboring islands such as La Gomera. Awesome.
3. The Loro Parque
I don't know whether to call this park a botanical garden, a zoo or an amusement park. It is actually all of this put together!
Very well maintained and perfectly organized, beautiful offers experiences of approaching animals and beautiful shows to entertain the whole family.
In this period the advantage is that it is not very hot so you can turn around with pleasure and it is not too crowded.
All detailed information can be found on the official website.
4. The most awarded water park in the world
Siam Park is an aquatic amusement park that has been awarded for years as the best in the world, and the largest in Europe.
Perfectly organized, nestled in a tropical garden to take your breath away, it offers lots of water games, slides and exciting fun.
In summer the queues are uncontainable and the visit becomes complicated; the advantage of coming to Tenerife in winter is to enjoy this wonder in complete tranquility.
For little money, those who suffer from the cold can rent a wetsuit and shelter from the breeze which, with a wet body, could be a bit annoying.
5. The Teide Volcano
The spectacle of the snow-covered volcano is magical; do not miss the opportunity to take the cable car to admire it up close, but cover up well because you will be over 3000 meters!
In addition, the whole park at the foot of the volcano offers wonderful and sometimes surreal landscapes, to be enjoyed with splendid walks.
And the advantage remains that Tenerife in winter is not too crowded and the wild nature of the park is enjoyed with greater spontaneity.
6. The towns
Numerous and very characteristic are the small seaside towns, on the south and north coasts, where you can stop for a walk, to discover the quiet local life, or to eat the typical Canarian cuisine.
You can visit the lively and well-equipped tourist resorts of the Costa Adeje, admire the cliffs de Los Gigantes, go through the Orotava valley, admire the perfectly preserved historic buildings from the colonial era in the town of Orotava and then go down to visit the marvelous one Puerto de la Cruz. There is something for all tastes.
7. Lots of relaxation
Tenerife in winter is also perfect for a relaxing holiday unplug from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy some stress-free time for yourself or family in a dry and sunny climate.
You can pleasantly walk on the well-kept promenades, especially on the southwest coast in the Adeje area; we can rest on the beach reading a good book or sipping a pint of beer for only € 1; you can eat very fresh fish, very tasty meat and fruit and vegetables in great abundance at absolutely reasonable prices.
After spending the entire Christmas period in Tenerife, I fell in love with this island full of light, life, and joy: Tenerife in winter is truly special!
Away from the crowds and confusion that fills the seaside resorts during the summer season, but without ever getting bored, you can get to know the most authentic part of this beautiful place, do many interesting activities or simply relax and get back in touch with yourself.
All at an absolutely reasonable budget.
You can't wish for more.
