Before leaving for Oman I had a different idea of this country. Since I returned instead, and I started to rethink the trip, I have to be honest, many things have really surprised me, I have found at least five.
If there are important things to know about Oman, there are also things that will amaze you. For one thing that will surprise you in the negative I am sure you will find at least twice as many that will make you smile and cheer you up. I've only written 5, but there are many, many more that surprised me than you imagine. 
1. Nature
Does saying nature in general seem trivial? Before leaving when I thought about what this Oman could be I thought only of the great desert and the dunes, I arrived in Oman and found oases, palm groves and green plants even in the desert. I saw the stars stretched out on a mattress in the middle of the dunes, and the water caves in the midst of arid and dry mountains they seemed to me a real gift. 
2. The absence of crime
Having not lived in this country I cannot say for sure, but if I stay there for ten days I can say that there perception of crime that there is here compared to what there is here is really very low. It feels safe walking in the evening or during the day even in two women, it feels safe while exploring new alleys and cities and also when talking to some Omani. For Omanis, stealing is one of the ugliest sins and it's easy to feel some sort of widespread trust towards the next. An aspect that I loved so much. 
3. The opening
Omanis smile, many laugh too, but first of all they smile, always. They are not afraid of the other, there is openness to every race and every ethnicity. They greet each other, shake hands when they meet on the street and it can happen that a whole line at the supermarket makes you pass everyone at the checkout just because you have only one purchase to make against an entire cart. Women and men are often divided, yes, but it is spirit of welcome of this country is immense, on both sides. 
4. Beauty, everywhere
Oman is a clean country, it's hard to find dirt around, and Omanis love to always be cared for in their person. They are beautiful with theirs dishdasha, they are always scented with oils that persist on the skin even after several hours, other than our perfumes. The eyes of these people are deep and they communicate serenity. Beauty in Oman is a concept that extends far beyond the person and what we are used to thinking. Beauty in Oman is everywhere. 
5. I colori
Omani women have beautiful, colorful, worked, handmade clothes. Under their abaya, the black dress typical of Muslim countries, you will always see some colored fabric, especially in large inhabited cities. In small villages, as I happened to see it in women who live in the desert, women still dress with local colors, bright and beautiful.
