One of the most exciting things in a trip to Tunisia is to do a 'desert excursion. Even if from today the walking on the sand dunes is even more monitored and has restrictions on the part of Tunis. The security of the country and the government have in fact decided that, especially in the desert areas of the Sahara and in particular in the southern part of Tunisia in the governorates of Tataouine, Kébili and Tozeur, tourists must be accompanied by the military.
The Tunisian Ministry of Defense has announced measures a protection of tourist groups which will be escorted by the military and these decisions are the consequence of the names approved by the Tunisian parliament already in 2008 concerning the blocking of irregular accesses to the territory by groups from neighboring countries. Tourists will be accompanied by authorized guides and protected by military units of the Tunisian army.
