What to do in Santorini

What to do in Santorini, discovering its beaches, its history and its sunsets over the sea. But not only that, here are some excursions to do starting from the island of Santorini.

Greece is synonymous with a journey of maturity or a Greek wedding, thanks to Italian and foreign filmography, but when we think of candid white buildings with blue roofs, there is only one name that comes to mind: Santorini.

Located in the south between the islands of the Cyclades archipelago in the Aegean Sea, between Ios and Anafi, Santorini owes its formation to a succession of volcanic eruptions, which make the steep side of the caldera one of the most picturesque landscapes, especially at night. Between beaches, sun and history, our tour begins to discover this fantastic island.

Akrotiri

Akrotiri is one of the most important prehistoric settlements in the Aegean. There are six main buildings that compose it, but much more is exhibited at the Museum of Prehistory of Thera. Akrotiri is the testimony of one of the largest urban centers and ports in the Aegean, with its multi-storey buildings and its water drainage system, state-of-the-art for the time it dates back to.

Sunsets over the sea

Breathtaking is the sun that at sunset is swallowed by the sea. A similar landscape can be admired in Oia or Ia, a town about ten kilometers from Phira. Narrow streets that are lost among the white buildings with blue roofs or dug into the rock, which decline towards the base of the caldera, reachable also by two stairways, the first of 214 steps respectively, Ammoudì; and 286 the second, Armeni. Ammoudì and Armeni are two of the six villages in which Oia is divided. We advise you to take a seat early, given the large number of tourists that the sunset attracts.
