Five places to have five o'clock tea in London. A tradition that is impossible not to follow once you arrive in the English city.
One of the most beautiful and certainly London things to do when in London is to take the 5 o'clock tea. Tradition has it that afternoon tea in London was invented to fill the "gap" between breakfast and dinner since in the half of 1800 it was usually served at 20.30pm / 21pm and then… my stomach rumbled. Afternoon Tea is without a doubt a lot of fun to do alone, but even better in company.
I tried just one of these places, but I think they are all worth considering. On the site you can also read the updated price of tea and pastries, but the experience is worth the cost that is proposed to you, I can assure you. The beauty of having tea with English ladies with hats and handkerchiefs on their legs is unique!
1. The Wolseley
The Wolseley is located at 160 Piccadilly, obviously a place on the menu is entirely dedicated to Tea & Cafè. An important part of the site is dedicated to the history of this place. The venue located in St James' was built in 1921 with Venetian and Florentine influences (and it seemed to you). It has recently been renovated and we hope to be able to see it live :)Afternoon Tea they run from 3 to 6.30 pm from Monday to Friday, from 3.30 to 5.30 pm on Saturday and from 3.30 to 6.30 pm on Sunday.
2. Time for Tea
Time for Tea a themed shop in London's East End only for tea lovers. The interior is truly like in the 40s with porcelain mugs, period furniture and with delicate jazz and retro tunes. Open Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 19 for tea and sweets.
3. London Ritz
For those who love the tea and luxury you will not find a better place than the classic Ritz of London. Definitely not a low cost place to go and think about spending a few pounds for a good cup of tea and some pastries, but a place to spend the afternoon, having an experience with your travel companions. We will point it out to you, then it will be up to you to decide whether to go there for the "snack" or decide just to go and have a look at the hall.
4. Pump Room London
If you like to drink tea while watching and "savoring" history you must try some friends who have a house in the country where they can drink local tea or, alternatively Pump Room at the Roman Baths of Bath for afternoon tea followed by a thermal bath and a nice visit to Winston Churchill's birthplace.
5. Fortnum and Mason
Fortnum and Mason in London it is an enchanting setting for tea and sweets but also excellent as a luxury shop. The fourth floor is also a restaurant.
Those who want to try something more commercial, let's say less niche, but certainly cheaper, can book directly theAfternoon Tea at Harrods and read the review, while those who can't go to London at the moment but want tea, that's it all shops, even online where you can buy the best tea :)
