A recent survey by Skyscanner reveals that, 4 out of 10 passengers applaud the pilot once they land. A very high number, I find it very annoying, like 39% of passengers it seems and do you like it? Are you one of those who applaud as soon as you touch the landing strip, do you hide in shame at the cry of "cursed Italians abroad" or do you not care?
The survey also informs us that 40% applaud quite regularly, among them 13% almost always. While the 59% say they have never clapped their hands on these occasions. This is me! :)
But why do passengers clap their hands? The survey examined this custom in more detail, identifying the reasons for this strange clapping. For 22% of survey respondents it is simply a thanks to the pilot, while 17% are happy to be back on land.
In fact, 15% do it for to relax while 12% now do it for good luck :o
