I have often heard conflicting opinions on the actual use of the metro as a means of transport when traveling abroad.
Personally I find the subway a useful and effective means for those who want to enjoy the city without wasting too much time and money between buses and taxis. Whenever I am in a foreign country where I will stay for at least 3 days I first do a pass for the subway. A day, 3 day or week pass is still cheaper than buying a single ticket.
The problem is theutilization. How much do you intend to use the means of transport? There are those who concentrate every day in a neighborhood, without too much traveling. There are those who prefer to follow the mood and move according to the events, the desire and, why not, the convenience compared to discounts in museums or reductions for shows going from one part of the city to the other at least twice a day. If you use the subway a little, it's not worth getting a pass.
And then, there are those who say no. Some people do not particularly like the subway because it is dirty, dark and does not allow you to enjoy the landscape and the city that perhaps can be experienced better with a simple bus ride. Although some lines in some cities also pass above the ground and do not always stay underground.
It must also be said that some subways are better organized than others and that some are more cumbersome, I personally found too many stops quite difficult and useless. Berlin, while the subway's very well organized Paris.
In my view the subway is the most effective and safe means to reach great distances in a short time. In my opinion the subway before being a means is also an experience that must be done to fully immerse yourself in the customs of the locals. And you, what do you think about it?
