After arriving on one of the nine islands of the Azores, how do you get around? Here is the information to move low cost between the Atlantic islands, tips to save with Sata.
Le Azores give nine islands in the middle ofAtlantic Ocean, nine islands that are about two and a half hours by plane from Lisbon, a mandatory stopover, from Italy with Tap Portugal. Once we arrive in the Azores, the problem arises "and now, how do we move between one island and another?". The airline that flies between the nine islands is only one, SATA.
Arriving in Terceira, one of the nine islands of the Azores, I immediately started thinking about how we would move to get to San Miguel, so I headed to the information office at Terceira airport. I found out that the only airline that moves between the islands is SATA. The nine islands, São Miguel, Pico, Terceira, São Jorge, Faial, Flores, Santa Maria, Graciosa and Corvo, are connected by SATA which is an airline that flies at all hours of the day, seven days out of seven.
After all, many people live on one island and then work on another. For example Terceira is considered an island where there is always a party, it is said that in Terceira there is a party every day, while the island of San Miguel is the one considered the office island and work life generally. Thus, there are many people who live for example in Terceira at the weekend and work all week in San Miguel.
To move between the islands there are also ferries, but I have not tried it, also because the route is made in 40 minutes by plane, it takes 5 hours on the ferry, so unless you have a full month of travel available, maybe it's worth investing some money in a ticket called Inter-Island from SATA.
Islands are generally divided into three main groupings.
Eastern Group - Santa Maria, São Miguel.
Central Group - Faial, Graciosa, Pico, São Jorge, Terceira.
Western Group - Crow, Flores.
There are no passes to travel between the islands and it is a shame in my opinion. Discounts are for students and residents only and not for tourists. If you want to visit more islands, you can still do a price test on the SATA website, in order to decide whether or not to buy one or more routes on your trip.
I was thinking about this inter-island pass thing because in French Polynesia, A country I visited a few years ago, is a type of ticket that is normally made. Not I found certain news about this pass to the Azores, if you find something or see that something changes, let me know in the comments and I will be happy to integrate the news in the post.
