Sleep low cost at the Bowery House in New York. A hostel with small but very cheap rooms where you can stay while traveling in the Big Apple.
You are a Manhattan, you are sleepy and little money. What are you doing?
Well, first of all, be ashamed, New York is the city that never sleeps! But if you need a little stop to recover from jet lag I recommend staying at Bowery House.
It is a very special hostel which among its pages also hosts a bit of history: it was here that some of the soldiers returning from World War II were staying. As good soldiers, strong and accustomed to harsh conditions, they certainly did not sleep in large and luxurious rooms, but in small cabins characterized by a mini-bed, a mini-bedside table and a small lantern to illuminate the room: these rooms are called Original Cabins and they still exist!
Obviously I stayed in one of these cabins and chose to have the one without a window (yeah, my budget was really limited); I'm really tiny rooms and you can barely move inside. The suitcases? There is no wardrobe under the bed. Know that you must also be ready to share any noise with your neighbors: the four walls are absolutely normal, but the ceiling consists of a kind of grid that prevents anyone from entering but allows the air conditioning to cool you down (or rather , cool you down, in the United States the air conditioning is always on the ball!).
In addition to the single rooms there are the traditional ones double and chaotic dorms, excellent for those traveling in company. I've spent $ 42 a night, which for a single room in downtown Manhattan is a very fair price. It is certainly not the ideal room for those used to traveling at 5 stars, but those who want to visit New York will hardly spend much time in the room, so thelow-cost option it is the best.
In addition to the experience bordering on claustrophobia there are three other things you can't miss at the Bowery House. Enjoy the bathroom, that is a true luxury. Completely black, decorated with Italian marbles and Parisian taps; inside the showers you can find bubble baths, shampoo and conditioner fragrant and at the exit you can dry yourself in the huge designer bathrobe Ralph Lauren.
Also pay a visit to the top floor: from rooftop, covered with a lawn in synthetic grass, you can enjoy the wonderful New York skyline.
Finally, you cannot but sit on the wonderful sofa located in front of the reception: from there you can connect for free to the wi-fi of the hostel and make friends with all the other guests of the Bowery House.
Pro: free wi-fi, equipped and elegant bathroom, very nice staff, very affordable price.
Cons: no lift and too many steps, little space for those used (like me) to travel with XL suitcases.
