Sleeping in New York at Wowa, a Canadian girl with Italian origins who works in Manhattan but lives in Harlem. That's why I recommend this accommodation, the review.
When I decided to leave for New York, one of my first concerns was, and now where do I sleep? I knew that housing is expensive in New York, but I didn't think so much. Hotels cost a fortune and if you are lucky you can find some discounted rooms in some newly opened design hotels, which therefore have great prices. If you don't want to end up in some shabby hostel and you want to spend the right amount, I recommend the solution I found, opting for Airbnb. I hardly ever talk about my accommodations on Airbnb, but this time I have to do it because the accommodation deserves, in terms of cost and hospitality.
First of all the area. I stayed for 10 days in New York in Wowa house ad Harlem. Don't worry, if you have any doubts, know that the Harlem area is very quiet, especially if you are close to the park, do not go over 135th Street so as not to be too far out. In this case my apartment was on 123rd and the subway stop was very close. Not only that, the line that goes up here and which is a few minutes walk from the apartment, arrives in a few stops directly to Manhattan. The apartment comes 76 € per night, but it has a different price for the week or the month, it depends on how long you want to take it. The apartment is not whole, but you will be given only one of the two rooms.
Don't be shocked, New York is expensive and the houses are small, but this one has the advantage of being nice, clean (which I think is the most important thing) and with one very welcoming owner. Personally, I found the optimal solution for my type of trip.
The moment you contact Wowa, the owner, will ask you if you want the main room or the sofa bed. I chose the sofa bed, because the price was different, but I assure you that I had a great time. I have always had my privacy and my spaces. The kitchen is shared, as is the bathroom. Wowa lives alone and has no pets, too speak Italian, so if you are not very familiar with the language you can speak yours. Wowa has indeed Italian origins, his Canadian grandmother is originally from Calabria and has several relatives in Rome. If you go to her she will certainly be pleased if you bring her an Italian product, for example coffee, which she keeps in the fridge :)
Wowa is an excellent owner, I said, because they have just arrived will provide you with the map and a book where you will find the password of the Wireless at home, but also the bars and restaurants of the neighborhood where you can go immediately to eat something. She usually leaves very early in the morning, around 8, because she works in Manhattan and comes back in the evening between 20 and 21. I have seen her very few times at home, I have to be honest, despite this the apartment was always clean and also the bathroom. There aren't many house rules to respect, but remember that at the entrance you will have to always take off your shoes, this is one of the few rules that you will be asked to respect.
As for my stay in New York it was also beautiful thanks to this young girl's accommodation. If I went back I would make the same choice and still today I recommend it to people who ask me for advice, not only for the price, but also for the beauty of the experience.
