California is a state full of surprises, a mini guide for a road trip to discover this state. When to go and how to save in California for a unique trip.
La California it is one of the most sought after and dreamed destinations.
It will be the fault of the millions of 90s TV series we have seen, it will be because it is on the other side of the world, it will be because it is the land of celebrities: whatever the motivation, California remains a very desired destination.
How to save in California
Unfortunately, many people are held back on the economic side of the matter, because you know, a trip to California could be expensive. When I took my first road trip in this area 7 years ago, it was actually a big blow to my finances: at the time I was not yet so good at finding low cost flights but, above all, the only period in which I could have two weeks of vacation was August which, as we know, is one of the most expensive months to travel the world.
The best thing would certainly be to organize in time and choose the right site to find a good flight.
One of my favorites is definitely SkyScanner: thanks to the “choose the cheapest month” function, you can check which months are the most convenient to leave for one of the Californian cities. An example? If I booked now a flight to Los Angeles from Madrid, with a single stopover, for a 12-day trip in June 2018 I would spend € 200 return. not bad, right?
I understand that not everyone can be organized a year in advance, but you can certainly find good prices by booking even a few months in advance; the function of Skyscanner it is really great and very easy to use.
When to go to California
It is a bit difficult to say when to go to California, as the area is very large and the period depends on the part you want to visit. In Los Angeles, for example, the summer is very hot, while the winter is mild; in January I wore a simple sweater because the temperature was around 20 degrees, while in the evening it was colder and it was around 10 degrees.
Towards San Francisco the climate becomes wetter in summer, with temperatures around 20 degrees, while winter is much colder than in the Los Angeles area.
THEwinter instead it is definitely hotter: summer can be really hot. In Las Vegas, in August, I could hardly walk around the city since how hot it was. Winter is certainly mild and, in January, I happened to go short-sleeved. If, on the other hand, you go towards the mountainous reliefs, winter is certainly much more rigid.
During the summer, absolutely avoid the Death Valley area, as it is really hot with its temperatures around 45 degrees.
In short, to sum up: the best time to tour California is definitely that vernal and that autumnal.
What do you say, is it time to organize a nice road trip to this fantastic destination?
