Are you planning a trip to New York? Read the post and book a lunch or dinner in one of the coolest and most famous restaurants in the city: Freemans!
New York it's definitely a crazy city, perhaps the most loved of the States, is the one where you return often and willingly. A thousand new things to see and as many thousand restaurants to try: from the cool one, to the hypster one, to the classic and inevitable diner. Sometimes choosing is really a problem.
However, since 2004 there has been a restaurant that has never stopped being on the crest of the wave. And having such a long longevity, maintaining a high quality standard, in a city that travels at the speed of light, is almost a rarity: we are talking about Freemans.
Where the Freemans Restaurant is located
No skyline, no skyscrapers, no rooftop because the restaurant is at the end of a small alley, Freemans Alley, in a side street of Bowery Street in the Lower East Side.
As soon as you enter the alley, among various murals, you will see a blue door with many lights appear ... and once you cross the threshold, the fantastic world of Freemans will open up. Leave aside the classic stereotypes of American clubs: here a stylish 50's New York design meets that of a mountain chalet.
The style of Freemans
Corner bar, soft light in each room, each one different from the other but all furnished in wood including the walls. Here and there fireplaces, paintings, mirrors and a lot of stuffed animal heads (certainly not particularly popular with those who are convinced animal rights activists).
Please do not stop at the first room you will meet but, after your table has been assigned to you, enjoy exploring the two-story venue in an almost labyrinthine way.
From the Wine Room located on the ground floor, to the Blue Room or the Red Room on the upper floors, you will be enchanted by the accuracy of the details with which each corner has been designed and furnished.
The Freemans menu
However, don't expect to find an equally sophisticated menu. The choice is rather limited and does not shine for particular originality, at least for lunch. The dishes offered are modern dishes from typical American cuisine with that minimum of international influence.
You go from some appetizers, a couple of salads, 2/3 seconds and 2/3 side dishes, plus some dishes of the day. The presentation is also discreet but it must be said that they compensate with excellent quality both for the taste and for the raw material used.
Accompany the dishes with one of the Great cocktails present on the menu or with one of their lemonades, the mango one is excellent! The range of desserts is also very limited but if you find it on the menu, try the stir-fried bananas with butterscoch cream and ice cream… A real treat!
The cost is medium to high for a lunch, but you know, if you want to be cool in New York you have to accept some compromises.
As with all the best known or coolest clubs in New York, the rule of also applies here book with a certain timeliness. But even here you will have to do it a few weeks in advance, and only online, compared to your visit to the Big Apple, to be sure to grab a table, especially if you want to go there in the evening.
