A fun and typical day trip from Chicago: everything you need to know about the commune of Milwaukee for a typically American day.
Milwaukee, Milwaukee, Milwaukee of course the city of Happy Days, the TV series not the Ghali song ...
In fact, if you want to take your picture with the popular character from the 80s cult series: Fonzie, you can be satisfied. It is located in the Milwaukee Riverwalk but it is certainly not the only thing that can be found in this city which - although not too touristy - is full of attractions and is often overshadowed by nearby Chicago, which is only an hour and a half away. Often in fact the visit to Milwaukee it is organized only on the occasion of the trip to the third most populous city in the United States.
Classic American breakfast
If you want to spend a whole day visiting the city, because that's enough time, for breakfast I recommend you go to the Comet Cafe, refinement is certainly not at home but you can enjoy one classic american breakfast.
Milwaukee museums
After breakfast, for motorcycle lovers this is where you can find the home of the famous Harley Davidson motorcycle manufacturer with the nearby Motorcycle history museum famous all over the world. Definitely worth a visit ($ 5 and you're in); In fact, there are some motorcycles on display that will leave you speechless even if you are not fans or drivers, such as the one driven by Elvis.
Leaving the museum, if you are in the mood, you can visit another one: the Milwaukee Art Museum, is mainly divided into 3 buildings the War Memorial Center, the Kahler Building and the Quadracci Pavilion, you can find works of art from any era: from classic to contemporary art.
Where to have lunch
It might be lunchtime already, right?
Well here you have a myriad of possibilities, from the classic American diner omnipresent in ai movies high-end restaurants.
I personally advise you to stop by Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery , a typically American restaurant overlooking the river a stone's throw from the statue of our beloved Fonzie.
Tips for the afternoon
After lunch you can enjoy a walk on the banks and relax at Pere Marquette Park a stone's throw from the Rock Bottom.
In the afternoon I recommend a tour of the Lakefront Brewery, where you can join a tour of the brewery.
With 9 dollars you can have the tour, tasting of beers of your choice - I seem to remember 4 - they give you the tasting glass at the entrance. At the end of the tour they still give you a souvenir glass, don't worry.
After the tour take a trip to the Public Market, an old renovated market where you can taste practically everything. They will also offer you courses to become a chef in 1 hour (I'm joking, lol).
It should be 6 pm and therefore time to go home, for those who love shopping on the way back you can stop at the Pleasant Prairie Premium.
Unfortunately, the trip "out of town" came to an end too quickly surely; the small town of Milwaukee still has a lot to show and I think if you get the chance to return to the area it will be a must.
