What to do and what to see on Lake Bled, six tips to not miss anything and do everything super low cost in Slovenia, a stone's throw from Italy.
A crystalline lake, a Castle, an enchanting little church set on an islet, gorges carved by the river water; all this can be found at Lake Bled.
Lake Bled is located about 55 km from the enchanting capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana. It is a fascinating lake thanks to its conformation, the castle that dominates it from above, but above all for the small island surrounded by crystal clear waters.
1. Walk to Bled Castle
The first thing not to be missed is the castle clinging to a rocky outcrop overlooking the lake and allowing an incredible view of the surrounding area.
On the shore of the lake there is a sometimes steep path (100 steps) that reaches the doors of the castle. When you enter this magnificent building you can admire enchanting views of the lake, do not miss a visit to the printing house, the Herb Gallery, the Forge of the castle and the museum exhibition which includes a collection of ancient finds.
2. A rowboat ride to visit the islet
There are two options to reach the small island in the middle of the lake. The first, to use the rowing boats that go back and forth piloted by an oarsman, the other much more pleasant and romantic is to rent a rowboat and reach the islet on your own.
In the lake only rowboats or small fishing boats with electric motors sail, this allows its surface to always be calm and flat.
After reaching the islet, you can go to visit the enchanting Church of the Assumption, where you can ring the bell three times, and the clock tower where you can admire an incredible pendulum clock with all the mechanisms, gears , weights and barbells. (both the entrance to the church and the tower are subject to charges).
3. Visit the Vintgar Gorges
5km north of the lake are these magnificent gorges carved by the Radovna River. The gorges are approximately 1,6 km long. There are footbridges and paths to follow and visit them. The river has carved caves, basins and jumps that have formed waterfalls that create a spectacular panorama.
The educational path that runs through the gorges allows you to admire this spectacle of nature. The tour ends by reaching the waterfall called Šum, 13 meters high where, on hot days, you can see a wonderful rainbow.
The main features of the gorges are the crystal clear waters and the multiplicity of colors that can be admired.
4. Bike tour around the lake
Given the small size of the lake, taking the cycle path along its banks is an experience for everyone.
This route allows you to enjoy the enchanting shores of the lake and to see it from multiple angles. It also allows you to better see the characteristic stately villas that can be seen on its banks and to discover the true character of this lake.
5. See the "Pod Iglico" waterfall
This waterfall, 24 meters high, is certainly a sight not to be missed. Just a few kilometers from the lake, it is surrounded by greenery and can be reached by walking through the woods.
The jump of the waterfall on live rock creates a truly unique spectacle, through a wooden staircase you can reach the top from where you can enjoy a suggestive view of the surrounding area.
6. Tobogganing on Mount Straža
This attraction runs along the M. Straža slope, which winds near the chairlift. Its position allows you to have a spectacular view of the lake, the castle and the islet. This attraction combines adrenaline with a pleasant view of the panorama from above.
The toboggan run is 520 meters long. with an average gradient of 25%, it covers a difference in height of 131 meters. and reaches a maximum speed of 40km / h. In short, an adrenaline rush within everyone's reach.
