What to see and what to do in Maui, an island in the Hawaiian archipelago, between beaches, parks and water activities. Five things to see in Maui one of the most beautiful islands in Hawaii, all in the post.
Among the most popular summer destinations, the Hawaiian Islands, and in particular theMaui Island, located south of O'ahu Island above Big Island, about a forty minute flight from Honolulu.
During my stay on the island, I was able to visit the north east coast of the island, staying in a hotel overlooking the beach of Ka'anapali. The daily temperatures were around 25 ° -27 ° C, also thanks to the breeze coming from the ocean. Here are the places we recommend you visit on the Island of Maui.
We moved with organized tours and public transport.
Ka'Anapali Beach
Ka'anapali Beach was ranked second in the Top 22 of the US coasts this year, and this recognition is due to the miles of fine white sand and pristine water. Furthermore, when the sky is clear, the outlines of the islands of Lanai and Moloka'i can be seen in the distance.
Black Rock or Pu'u Keka'a
A little farther from Ka'anapali Beach is Black Rock or Pu'u Keka'a, once considered a sacred place, a sort of transition bridge from one world to another for spirits. Today it is best known for snorkeling in its clear, shallow waters, which are also home to numerous marine creatures. Right here from November to May it is possible to spot the whales that reach the shores of Ka'anapali beach.
The city of Lahaina
Reachable by bus, the city of Lahaina is about ten minutes from Ka'anapali Beach. From the 1800s to XNUMXs it was the capital of the Kingdom of Hawaii. The main street, Front Street, runs along the ocean, and offers numerous amusements to tourists among shops and restaurants.
Kahekii Beach Park
North of Ka'anapali beach, is Kahekii Beach Park, ideal for novice surfers and snorkelers, given the proximity of the cliff. Here you can spot green turtles.
Haleakala National Park
Lastly, you cannot miss a visit to Haleakala National Park, the park of volcanic origin, where you can admire the sunrise or sunset from the highest point. We chose dawn, and they picked us up with a van from the hotel at two in the morning, to accompany us and our fellow adventurers to the observation point. In September, the sun rises between 6 and 6.40, but the wait was worth it. We recommend comfortable clothes and a windbreaker, and to book a visit.
