There has been no room in the city for months now, streets and squares have already been set up and prepared, everything is in its place to welcome the biggest event which inaugurates the Sevillian spring season: the Semana Santa.
Not just a religious moment but a cultural phenomenon that attracts visitors from all over the world, the Semana Santa opens Friday March 30, el viernes de Dolores, and ends on Sunday 8 April, el Domingo de Resurrección: a whole week of festivals, processions and religious ceremonies in every corner of the city.
Despite the myriad of people, the organization is perfect and flawless. Each procession leaves from the church of its parish at a certain time of the pre-established day, and goes towards the center and the Cathedral, passing through calle Sierpes and plaza San Francisco, and to return to the starting point, not before 2 o'clock. 3 at night.
But what is carried in procession?
Each brotherhood has its own step: a car on which statues of Christ, the Cross, the Virgin or scenes from the Passion are placed. They pave the way for paso, carried on the shoulders of costaleros, the nazarenos, who wear a particular pointed hood, of different color depending on the brotherhood, with only the eyes uncovered.
What not to miss?
