Where to eat in Vis, Croatia, the review of the Konoba Golub restaurant, because we recommend a lunch here, both for the dishes and for the location, the advice on how to arrive and when to show up.
On the island of Quick View, off the coast of Split, in Dalmatia. Vis has been for years a territory closed to tourists for military reasons, which has contributed to making the island a truly fascinating place to visit. The locals are all concentrated in the only two centers: Vis, the main port from which the island takes its name and Komiza, the fishing village on the opposite side. The road that connects the two towns is certainly not very busy in the evening, perhaps due to the very poor lighting (therefore pay close attention). For this reason, perhaps I would like to recommend, during your stay in Croatia, the Konoba Golub for lunch, rather than dinner, given its decentralized position and the partly unpaved road to go to reach it.
Konoba Golub, Croatia: how to get there
Starting from Vis, take the path towards Komiza, paying attention to the deviation towards Podselje, a tiny hamlet scattered a few kilometers higher up. Do not be alarmed if upon your arrival you have the sensation of being in a ghost village: we start having lunch at about 14 pm! I assure you that the atmosphere will seem very suggestive and original. No one is on the streets until 14pm, like in full Mexico at siesta time!
But when Konoba opens its kitchens, you immediately realize that it's time for lunch. The highlights, both of meat that of fish, I am cooked on the grill and the scent is inviting to say the least.
While waiting, nothing prevents you from enjoying the beautiful landscape on the small harbor of Vis sipping a lemon beer at an outside table. A very relaxing little aperitif. Relaxation is therefore the watchword here.
The restaurant: what to expect
The interior of the restaurant is collected, rustic but well-kept, few tables, many guests… but the confusion is never excessive. An ideal mix of movement and tranquility.
Il menu it is sufficiently varied to challenge any visitor who wants to taste authentic Croatian flavors because there is really plenty of choice.
But what to taste? Of course typical dishes! Here are some tips.
Typical of the area is grilled lamb with grilled vegetables, in portions to say the least generous.
As for the fish, however, our greatest satisfaction was the tagliolini with prawns (also these in unexpected quantities). You will therefore go out with a full stomach, but above all completely satisfied.
Konoba Golub, Croatia: typical place
The drinks list puts the first local rosé wine: pay attention, during your journeys, to the numerous indications of vineyards scattered in the innermost part of the island.
The Konoba lunch can end with a great dessert of the day and a herbal amaro.
Finally, at the time of the bill, you will confirm your satisfaction: low prices and excellent value for money. Not bad, right?
The only unknown factor is the reservation. It is not possible to reserve a table. So how to do it? Better to go directly to the restaurant, well in advance, ask the cook who will look at you dazed, and sit patiently waiting. At this point you are ready to fully enjoy your local gastronomic experience in Vis.
