Sleeping at Chania Hostel in Crete
Last year I was in spring in Crete traveling alone. I therefore chose, as usual, a hostel, where I feel very comfortable because I have the opportunity to meet other travelers like myself.
I booked for a few nights the Chania Hostel, which is located in the Chania area, which is the closest to the airport. Not having a car available, I therefore preferred a convenient location to reach by bus. And in fact in a few minutes and with a ticket of 2,50 euros, I reached the hostel.
The stop is right in front, where the “Attikon” cinema is. The price of the hostel is very affordable. Consider between 10 and 15 euros per night. The location is good, about 10 minutes walk from the center of Chania and a few minutes from the nearest beach.
The rooms of the Chania Hostel
Depending on your preferences and price, you can choose between different types of rooms. They all have several beds: 4, 6, or 10. Since it is not a problem for me, I stayed in a mixed room with 10 beds.
The rooms are wooden, with bunk beds. There isn't much room to store suitcases, just a few drawers. Whoever arrives first can obviously choose the bed in the best position, which for me was near the window. Otherwise you take what is there.
Each room has a bathroom inside, quite small but cleaned frequently by the staff.
The kitchen in the garden
The nicest area of ​​Chania Hostel is in my opinion the ground floor. At the entrance there are some shelves with books in all languages ​​available to guests, and the furniture is vintage. Then there is a garden, where there are often very sociable kittens.
And right from the garden you enter the kitchen, a small room with stove, fridge and oven. The tables for eating are partly located in the garden, partly under a patio. This is the place par excellence to socialize and meet new people.
We meet there for breakfast, lunch or a drink in the afternoon and we often make arrangements with others to go to the beach together or take part in the excursions organized by the hostel.
Tours organized by the hostel
If you are not planning to rent a car in Crete but at the same time want to discover the most beautiful beaches on the island and its landscapes, organized tours are a good idea.
It is necessary to reach a minimum number of participants among the customers of the hostel and at that point, every day a stop is decided and we all leave together with a bus. The price varies depending on the excursion but is still often advantageous compared to the proposals of travel agencies.
