Alexanderplatz in Berlin, an atypical center

Alexanderplatz in Berlin, an atypical center

Alexanderplatz a Berlin it's not actually the center of the city. In fact, it is said that Berlin as a city does not have a center, it is certain that Alexanderplatz is one of the best known squares in Berlin, which is why I wanted to call this post this way.

Alexanderplatz, however, has the primacy of them the largest square in Europe. Its name derives from Tsar Alexander I, who visited the capital of the kingdom of Prussia in 1805. In 1882 a station was built here which became a real railway junction and the construction of the central covered market in 1886 meant that the square became the most important commercial center in Germany and certainly also one of the most important in Europe. In 1929 the square became even more important thanks to Alfred Döblin who titled one of his novels: "Alexanderplatz Berlin".

After the Second World War which destroyed much of Berlin and Germany, Alexanderplatze was soon remembered thanks to Berlin TV tower, the Berlin TV tower which is right next door. A closer look at Alexanderplatz does not inspire sympathy and does not even give a good impression, its name above all precedes it, because as far as I'm concerned it is a small disappointment within a chaos of beautiful things that the city of Berlin offers.

How do you think? Did Alexanderplatz disappoint you or not?
