Brisbane: hostels and tips for orientation in the first few days

Brisbane it is a fairly large city, one of the few that does not overlook the sea, even though it is only a few kilometers away.

    - hostels they are the best solution to look for a subsequent accommodation for those who have to stay longer, or a valid support for those who decide to make a touch and go. For those who want to be comfortable, not far from the center, but enough to avoid city traffic, Upper Roma Street is the area for you: hostels for all tastes, you can walk to the center (the only drawback is the last part uphill!) and you come out in the main square of Brisbane, where the wifi is free, which is a great value, considering that most hostels have wifi for a fee!

I can recommend two, tested on my skin. Chill Backpackers, 328 Upper Roma Street, is a hostel that has dorms or private rooms: it's a bit expensive actually. The double travels on $ 80 per night about; the dormitory is obviously cheaper (about $ 30). Great value is linked to cleanliness. The bathrooms are really clean, and although I continue to shower with slippers, there are those who were without (which is both an indication of cleanliness of the bathrooms and a strengthening of the use of my slippers!).

Another hostel is the Woodduck, still on the same street, a little less clean, but comfortable in the same way and extremely cheaper (dorms are around 20-25 dollars). I always recommend bringing one pillow case. This is a very recent “backpacker style” tip, but better be foresight, it costs nothing, and ensures cleanliness. For those who are skeptical of dorm rooms, they are actually a very useful solution in Australia, where everything is very expensive, and one does not live at all bad for a tacit mutual respect between travelers.

To live better in the hostel you need to have some small tricks. The kitchen is always available, so you can save money by shopping (better if shared with the guys you know), but it is necessary to have a fridge bag (available at the supermarket for about $ 2). This solves two problems: keeping stuff tidy in the fridge, and preventing it from being stolen or used by others. In fact, every hostel requires the name, surname, room and period of stay to be written in order to check. There are essentially two supermarkets where you can really find everything: woolworths, which is often found in shopping malls in the city center, and coles, a little cheaper, is located just behind the aforementioned hostels.
