In Genoa there are numerous typical trattorias where to eat near the aquarium, but here I will tell you about one in particular that is a must for me every time I go back to Genoa: Antica Sa 'Pesta.
La Trattoria Antica Sa 'Pesta it is located precisely in Via dei Giustiniani 16R, among the typical caruggi (alleys) of the historic center of Genoa, a few steps from the Aquarium.
The restaurant has ancient origins, the opening dates back to 1800 as a place for the sale of salt, an important source of income for ancient Genoa, where coarse salt was crushed to be refined, a convenience for buyers from which it was then took the name of the existing inn today: Sa 'Pesta (crushed salt).
In this restaurant you can eat some of the typical Genoese dishes low in cost but rich in flavor such as Genoese meatloaf, chickpea farinata, focaccia, chard cake, onion cake, rice cake, stuffed anchovies with many others Ligurian specialties.
The restaurant is very simple and spartan with wooden benches and tables that help create an ideal atmosphere for a historic and ancient inn where the two original ovens of the time, the vaults in the ceiling and the typical floors of historic Genoese buildings.
My experience:
I recently returned to Genoa and had the pleasure of eating again at Antica Sa 'Pesta. Two of us ordered the mix of homemade savory pies including the farinata, from the classic with oil to that stuffed with anchovies, potatoes and green beans and with cheese, all accompanied with a quarter of house red wine and two tiramisu. Good food and good bill: 24,50 euros total (12 euros per person).
We ate very well and the service was fast despite the place being full. The price, nowadays, can be defined as low cost as the portions were abundant for only two people and we must not forget the central position of the venue close to the main sights and attractions of Genoa.
Antica Sa 'Pesta passionately carries on the traditions of Genoese cuisine by immersing its customers in a place of other times, in ancient Genoa that can still be relived today in the alleys of the historic center. The profession of the cake maker was in fact very old in Genoa and still today you can find inns of this kind but I believe no other with these ancient origins.
After a visit to theGenova's aquarium a lunch or dinner at Antica Sa 'Pesta is an excellent solution for a low cost trip!
