A stone's throw from the Berlin Zoo is situated Joe´s Wirtshaus zum Löwen in Hardenbergstraße 29. This place was truly a discovery because from the outside you wouldn't know what awaits you inside. The Berlin zoo area is not very famous for elegance or sobriety, on the contrary, the very famous book We the boys of the Berlin zoo was set here. Today the area is not so degraded, but there are many "red light" shops and in the evening the atmosphere is not the best.
Having said that, why go? First of all for the zoo, if you have children it is worth seeing, very large, almost all in the open air. Second, because the restaurant is located a few steps from the charlottenburg neighborhood a very elegant neighborhood with beautiful houses and hotels, including theOtto Hotel, where I have stayed personally and I think it is very good and cheap.
While outside the club is full of chairs and tables, for the summer, inside it is a real restaurant, rather large, with a main room and a room instead, this above in the photo which remains closed in winter but is very bright. Here they serve beer of course but also several pretty good dishes, I tried a dessert.
The beautiful thing is theenvironment. The place is full of details, leaves, trees, birds, but also houses and gnomes, it really seems to be in the middle of a garden. Cozy and particular recommend as a local or restaurant for those who want to visit the Berlin zoo or it happens in the west of the city.
