When were you in Munich and why?
I lived in Monaco and surroundings from January to September 2010. Besides some personal reasons, I went to live there mainly because I wanted to learn German (although, then, once on site, I realized that Bavarian is sometimes very far from classic German ;-). Also I had read everywhere that Munich was a beautiful, liveable and pleasant city. And then they do theOktoberfest. I then went to afre il au pair boy and to teach Italian.
The lowest cost thing?
Monaco in general has little low cost: it is the most expensive city in Germany. But once you know the city well, you realize it's full of low cost opportunity. I personally loved going in Swimmingpool (3,8 euros, inclusive of everything, even hot tub), buy a Bayern Ticket (28 euros to get around 5 ..) people all day on public transport throughout Bavaria, including trains), in addition to potato salad (1kg.) 1,5 euros at the supermarket.
Pros and cons of Munich
Benefits: city perfectly organized, very clean, perfect public transport (bus, tram, sbahn, ubahn: all with schedule respected to the second.), punctual and efficient, full of greenery and services, well connected with the rest of Germany and Europe and cmq, not very expensive compared to the Italian metropolises ( Rome and Milan). And then, how nice to go around the center on Saturday afternoon and see boys / girls and gentlemen / and dressed in traditional Bavarian clothes
Defects: at first glance none. Perhaps, despite the city having 1,2 million inhabitants, it is not very large and the center is quite narrow: in the long run it can be repetitive. In addition, public transport is very expensive (a ride on the metro 2,4 euros, monthly pass only for the center 55 euros), and movies it can cost up to 12 euros.
How to have fun
The city is full of breweries and night clubs. In addition, the atmosphere is always festive (there is the carnival.). In general, just go to a Kneipe (Pub) in the evening, sit down and have a beer: something will happen. Needless to talk about Oktoberfest and the less famous one Frühlingfest (spring festival): you drink, you drink and .. you drink. In addition, especially in the summer, you can go to the beer gardens (Beer gardens): sit on an outdoor bench and order your beer: food can be brought from home and all Bavarians do it.
How to find a house and how much it costs
Ads in newspapers, agencies, the internet, in short: as in Italy. A small apartment on the outskirts (5 minutes by metro from the center, in short) can cost around 500€. Prices that rise dramatically as you approach Marienplatz, the heart of the city. In general, the costs are those of a large Italian city (Genoa, Palermo) but still less high than Rome or Milan.
How friends are found
Don't be fooled by stereotypes: Germans they are the most sociable people of the world. The only small obstacle is that of the language: unfortunately, German is not easy to learn. The advice is to attend us one vhs (schools of training of the people) to learn the language and start attending classmates, foreigners like you. In any case, in the evening in the pubs, it is very easy to meet people and have a laugh in company. Personally I have met many Germans and foreigners al Ned Kelly's Australian Bar in Frauenplatz.
What are we eating?
Sausages, sausages, sausages. White, roasted, with ketchup, mayonnaise, curry and mustard: in short, in all sauces. In general, potatoes in all ways, the famous Bretzel (a kind of salty biscuit), the Knodel and meat of all kinds.
