Il Popeye village in my opinion it is only worth a visit if you have children. I correct myself. Popeye Village, in my opinion, is worth a visit inside only if you have children, but if you take a holiday in Malta, it is definitely worth a visit at least from the outside always and in any case, for its beauty and for the postcard view that gives.
What is Popeye Village?
Il Popeye village was created as a film set, on the occasion of the shooting of the Disney movie in 1979 of the film Popeye-Popeye (film later released in 1980) with Robin Williams in Anchor Bay, also called Sweethaven Village. 19 wooden houses were built, all colored, 19 houses that can still be visited today in the village of Malta.
How to get to Popeye Village
Getting to Popeye Village by car is very easy, just follow the signs for the village or set in your navigator Triq TalPrajjet, Il-Melliena, Malta. Easy right?
If you have to get to the Village instead autonomously, as I did, you must instead organize yourself with buses. If you leave from Valletta or St. Julian you must at least make a change of bus. In all it will take you approx 40 minutes from St. Julian taking thebus number 42.
Basically you have to take the buses going to Il-Melliena, on the north-east coast of the island. From there wait for the free shuttle which takes you to the village and which only and exclusively takes that route. It takes 5/10 minutes at most, you could even walk, and you can't go wrong. The shuttle times are fixed, the shuttle leaves the Village only 50 minutes after arriving. You will have 50 minutes to visit Popeye Village if you want, or 50 minutes to take photos and to have a coffee at the outside bar (also restaurant) in the village.
Finally, those who have taken a hotel and want to take advantage of the shuttle service organized by the village, and which touches the major hotels on the Island of Malta, there is the Popeye Express Bus. The shuttle takes you directly to the park and picks up tourists directly at the hotel at 9 am.
How to take pictures without entering
As I told you at the beginning of the post, I'm not very sure if the village is a real attraction for everyone. If then you want to take some nice pictures, but without entering, there is a path that I recommend you take to take beautiful photos from afar. Once in front of the Popeye Village entrance cash desk, take the road on the left, the main road to understand us, and walk about ten meters. Behind the first corner you will find a beautiful panorama. Just do a lot be careful not to step over the guard rail inviting as it may seem, it is very dangerous indeed.
