Seven things to pack for those who want to take a sporting holiday and specifically surfing. Tips and things to take with you on your trip to stay calm and enjoy your holiday.
For some time now I have been starting to adopt the backpacking philosophy for my travels. At the beginning it is very difficult to choose what to bring and what to leave at home, at least for me it was. Because everything seems to be indispensable or it could be useful.
Forcing me to cram all in one backpack, although great, I adopted a technique that helped me a lot. I start by putting everything I would like to carry on the bed or desk, then I move the basics aside and start filling in the spaces with the outline.
If I think about the seven things to pack for a surf destination certainly among the fundamental things can not miss:
1. Documents
I start from the obvious but it is always better to have everything in sight. Have you prepared all the necessary documents? Identity documents, for travel, for accommodation?
2. Costumes or wetsuit
This too may seem obvious because our hope is to spend all day in the water. Although I wrote costumes in the plural it doesn't mean you have to bring your entire boardshorts collection, 2/3 is enough.
3. Sun creams
If you have to stay in the sun all day, especially in certain latitudes, it is always better to have sun protection, even minimal. You have to enjoy your vacation to the fullest and try to avoid any inconvenience.
Since we are at the moment of personal care, it is time to also prepare the necessaire for personal hygiene. So let's put another check on the list.
4. Medicines and supplements
Still for the discourse of avoiding inconveniences it seems right to bring some drug and / or supplement which may not be available in our destination. Before putting them in your backpack, however, do an online search to see if they are allowed, as each country has different rules. In case of indispensable drugs, for particular pathologies or treatments, get a certificate from your doctor.
5. Flip flops and glasses alone
Classic of the surfing lifestyle. Like black they go well with everything.
6. Snorkeling mask
I put this on a bit for good luck, if one day there shouldn't be so at least I can stay below the water level. A swim, a visit to the seabed and spend the day flat.
7. Action cam and Smartphone
Now inevitable companions not only for travel but for everyday life. For take pictures and shoot small (or long) videos to share on social networks and to show friends where you surfed and in what conditions. Obviously we must also take into account memory card, accessories, chargers and, if needed, adapters. You forgot about these, right?
Speaking of technology, I want to recommend some apps that could be useful, not only for travel, but also for your home surfing. A'weather app for sure you have already downloaded it, right? I mean both as climate and as weather waves, then if there are webcams on the spot you are right on horseback.
While traveling, surfing the net can have high costs, so I advise you to inform yourself beforehand wifi coverage and where you can connect.
We Italians are good at making ourselves understood everywhere, but in some cases atranslator app could be useful, to avoid linguistic blunders. I can't do without music, so I always try to have some CDs loaded in the library of my smartphone.
As you may have noticed on this list I have not entered the table, not because I forgot or because there is no way to fit in a backpack. Simply because I often prefer rent it directly there, among those available and based on the conditions I find.
If you are fond of your board and want to take it with you do not forget to bring a set of spare fins, paraffin and a quick repair kit. In this case, you could also increase the volume of your luggage by cramming something into the board bag.
Now that we have prepared the 7 things to pack for a surf destination, let's put everything in the basics area and start choosing a few items of clothing to fill the backpack. Among the Bermuda shorts and t-shirts don't forget a sweatshirt, it can always come in handy.
I forgot something?
