Scandic is an important chain of accommodation facilities spread throughout Scandinavia. In January I had the opportunity to stay for three days in one of them, the Scandic Paasi hotel in Helsinki. It is located in Paasivuorenkatu 5 and is just two kilometers from the historic center.
The atmosphere is very youthful and already from the reception I found a warm welcome. My room was large and comfortable, the wi-fi was free and fully functional. The structure is very large with 170 rooms in five different types, and is also used for conferences. We are in Finland and clearly the sauna is available for customers, next to the gym. Perhaps I was expecting something more from breakfast, perhaps with more Finnish typicality but I understand that the clientele is varied and from all over the world.
If you are planning to visit this splendid northern capital, from a logistical point of view I would recommend it, also because the costs are very competitive. Less than a hundred meters away is Hakaniemi square from which the main tram lines on rail depart to reach the historic center and the main places of Helsinki.
But if you like walking, I recommend that you do it on foot because in just fifteen minutes you can reach Piazza del Senato, the Cathedral, the characteristic market on the port and the main shopping streets. At 200 meters you can enter the Kauppatori, the covered market, a two-story building full of shops selling typical food and crafts.
