Our day starts very early in Helsinki. At 6.45 am we are already outside our Scandic Paasi hotel, headed for boarding, destination Tallinn in Estonia. We quickly board the m / s Finland, actually an Italian ship refurbished by the Eckero Line in the Livorno shipyards. The journey begins by admiring from the highest deck of the ship sunrise and the island of Suomenlinna a few nautical miles from the Finnish coast, something that will be difficult to forget.
We have breakfast on board and it is another important moment of socialization for the many bloggers present. After just two hours of navigation we arrive in Tallinn and Gregor is waiting for us, an Estonian guide who will follow us all day. Our first stop is the Lennusadam Seaplane Harbor, a large military hangar built in 1916 and converted into an exhibition area. The rooms are huge with domes that are the envy of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome in terms of size. Inside we are accompanied to an exhibition dedicated to transatlantic Titanic with reconstructions of the rooms, internal stairs and various objects recovered after his shipwreck. The exhibition is attracting thousands of tourists from all over Europe. Once the visit was over, we then explored the interior of the huge submarine inside the Lennusadam, the Soviet Lembit.
We move nearby to visit the House of Estonian Design and we entertained ourselves admiring the creations of some artists. After a quick lunch we left to explore Tallinn under a snowfall that accompanied us until our boarding.
The city of Tallinn it is divided into two parts, the first decidedly medieval within its walls and one that blends modern and ancient architecture in a perfect way. We thus had the opportunity to observe the highest bell tower in the city, 123 meters in the San Olaf church, then the main Orthodox and Lutheran churches. Finally, the inevitable tour through the alleys of the town observing the many souvenir shops, storytellers in medieval clothes, the oldest cafes in Tallinn and shop windows full of Estonian clothes and crafts.
This city is among the main destinations of Nordic tourism even for the Finns themselves not only for its unquestionable charm, but also for its much lower and more convenient prices than in Finland.
