If you are planning to come to Vietnam and need good accommodation - strictly low cost - in Ho Chi Minh City, I have the place for you. Is called Thanh Thuong and it's a delicious one Family run guest house, is located in a very quiet lane and well positioned in the city center, in District 1. For those who arrive in Vietnam for the first time, the formula of the Guest House is the one I recommend because for the same comfort it is much more characteristic of a "standard" hotel, and often even more convenient.
THEwelcome in this Guest House it really is warm e careful: the first thing they will do is provide you with a map of the city, explain exactly where you are and give you a thousand tips! I assure you that in a metropolis like Ho Chi Minh City this is no small feat. The guys at the reception will also be able to help you out to organize the rest of your stay, book excursions and trips around Vietnam.
All is clean, albeit a lot simple and without any particular frills. In the rooms nothing is missing: minibar, cable TV, comfortable beds, spacious bathrooms (although the furnishings are a bit worn), WIFI and air conditioning. The minibar, among other things, has really honest prices, practically the same as the supermarket.
Thanh Thuong has two room types: those small (from 11 euros per day) and those great (from 13 euros per day). For such a small price difference, I highly recommend the large rooms, which have larger windows and face outwards and not inwards. Breakfast is not provided but next to it you will find a couple of excellent restaurants equipped for both continental and traditional Vietnamese breakfast: I recommend you above all, Asian Kitchen.
A small warning: the stairs they are steep and there is no lift, but take heart and ask for a room on the upper floors. It will be quieter and overlooking one really beautiful view.
