I Vatican Museums in Rome offer a show that is worth seeing on a holiday in the capital. Although the entrance is a bit expensive, despite the fact that there are always too many people, even though it takes at least half a day to see at least one section well, the Vatican Museums must be seen.
If after visiting the Saint Peter Basilica you got on Dome and you have enjoyed the splendid panorama between Castel Sant'Angelo and the Roman beauties, to best end a visit to Rome I suggest you also see the Vatican Museums.
The entrance comes € 16 for the full ticket and the opening hours are every morning, excluding Sundays at 9am with closing at 18pm, while the ticket offices close at 16pm. The last Sunday of the month admission is free except on certain rare occasions, therefore Easter, Christmas, May 1st and other dates that may vary but that you can find all on the site. On these Sundays the opening hours of the museums are at 9 and they close at 14.
If you decide to venture into the visit on Sunday morning, as it is free, just remember that the doors of the museum open at 9, but there will be people in line already at 8. I myself arrived at 8.45am and the line was already quite long, I only entered at 10am. Wake up early so and arrive early, you will have more time to see things.
The interior of the Vatican Museums is very beautiful. You will find many internal shops ready to sell you books, coins, souvenir mugs and posters, many bathrooms and also a restaurant and several bars. You will not be without food or souvenirs then. If you want to buy a guide, I don't recommend you do it because the only things you find written in the guide are those that are also found as an explanation under the main works.
The most crowded room, needless to say, is that of the Sistine Chapel. A wonder that will take you some time, both because you will have to get there, and between one room and another it is not at all easy. Both because it is very large and if you want to look at it well you will have to stay here a long time. A masterpiece that deserves all your attention.
In addition to the beautiful Sistine Chapel you will also find the Gregorian Egyptian Museum Galleria lapidaria, The famous Courtyard of the Pigna which is what you see in the main photo, here you will also find a nice outdoor bar. Continuing the visit you will also be able to see the New Arm (when I went it was closed for construction), the Gallery of the Tapestries, the Gallery of the Candelabra, the beautiful Raphael rooms, the Hall of the Biga, the wonderful one Gallery of Geographical Maps and many other rooms.
The things to see are many, among all I must say that the Hall of animals I was particularly impressed and I think it will also affect those of you who have children. There are many discoveries and artistic and architectural beauties that are made in a day in the Vatican Museums and several things that you would like to remember and take home - if only in memory.
At the end of the visit you will also find a very particular staircase, it is the wonderful one Helical staircase by Giuseppe Momo.
