By train from London to Edinburgh to travel low cost and visit the city of Scotland. Here is a one day itinerary to see Edinburgh starting from the London city.
Edinburgh it is not exactly one of the usual tourist destinations for an Italian. However if you are a London on vacation I recommend that you visit Scotland, even for just one day. From London Euston station there is a night train called Caledonian Sleeper which reaches Edinburgh in one night.
Prices vary 39 to 116 pounds depending on the compartment chosen (seats or couchettes), and if you have an InterRail Pass you can take the train using the pass, making only the free reservation directly at the station, even on the day of departure. The train is very modern and comfortable and the seats are also very comfortable for sleeping, despite the low price.
Depart from London at 23 pm and arrive at the station Edinburgh Waverley at 07:19. The station and the shopping center attached to it are also worth a visit: this is the only station in the world named after a novel. It is in fact the masterpiece signed by Walter Scott, published in 181.
You can then stay at the station to have breakfast and get ready to face the day. If you prefer to save, head to Royal Mile and then to Nicolson Street, where you can begin to immerse yourself in city life.
Here you will find supermarkets offering numerous affordable snacks, especially delicious cookies and fresh milk. The fact that Anglo-Saxon countries are expensive is very relative, you have to know how to choose well. If you want to follow the itinerary that I will propose, I suggest you also buy something for one lunch bag, so as to be more independent.
A walk on the Royal Mile is a must: here we are in the heart of the city, the real historic center, where you can admire many small shops that sell souvenirs and typical products, including the famous kilt, made in tartan, the particular design of Scottish wool fabrics.
On the Royal Mile you can visit a very interesting and free museum: it is the Museum of Childhood, the first museum in the world dedicated to children. The collection includes everything related to a child's life: baby dishes, biscuit and cereal packages, bicycles and scooters, dolls and stuffed animals, toy cars and railway models. In short, everything and more, to make a real journey through time.
After the visit to the museum, back to the station and then to Princes Street, the shopping street. I recommend a short stop at Primark, a clothing store where, if you are looking for special offers, you will find very affordable prices. If you are a music lover, then you should definitely visit the HMV shop.
The next stop is The Water of Leith Walkway, a pedestrian and cycle path that winds along the Leith, the river that crosses the city. It is a very particular and suggestive path, surrounded by nature. From Princes Street you can easily reach the Dean Gardens and Dean Village: it's all a succession of green meadows, waterfalls, pretty brick houses decorated with colorful flowers. Obviously this is the perfect setting for a picnic!
If you really want to enjoy the walk I recommend you take the path calmly and without stress, listening to the sounds that surround you. If you decide to take the route along the river, alas, you will have to give up the climb on the famous one Arthur's seat of Holyrood Park, so the choice is yours, because doing both in one day is a bit difficult. At the end of the day, you should head to the station to have dinner so that you are already in the area and be ready for the train to depart. The
Princess Mall Shopping Center offers numerous dining options and is open until 22.00pm
After dinner, the wait at the station is not very long, the Caledonian Slepeer leaves at 23:40 for London Euston.
