If you are a Edinburgh and you want to avoid the usual pub burger and fries or if you are just really vegetarian / vegan and would like to relax in a quiet environment Henderson's it's the place for you. Yes, it is a local vegetarian, but forget about tofu and salad: the rich dishes consist of delicacies that even fans of rare steak will appreciate! All at very affordable prices, a detail that never hurts!
On the corner of Hanover St. and Thistle St., in the New Town, the Share: born in the 60s, it immediately became a point of reference in the city, here the farm products by Janet and Mac Henderson. Here it is possible to stop every day for a quick meal or a coffee sitting at the counter, as well as being able to buy biological food and healthy take away dishes. This small shop is also famous for its bread and baked goods: it is not always possible to find this product in the city outside our country and for lovers of this food a nice loaf, a scone or a brioche are perfect to break hunger after a walk in the city.
Alongside, within a few years, the Bistro or Restaurant. The first, where I was for dinner, is a unique intimate and colorful room, the staff will make you sit at one of the tables and on the slate hanging on the wall you will find the dishes of the day: soups, quiches, crepes, wraps and many other things, all special recipes prepared with fresh ingredients. If you want a nice, relaxing and even a little romantic (but not formal!) Environment it is definitely perfect. The restaurant is open for lunch and closing time is always between 20.30 and 21.30.
The Restaurant, located just below the Deli, has a wider menu and the style is a mix of classic and contemporary vegetarian cuisine. Everything is done with extreme care and attention. Here the opening hours are less Scottish than the Deli: the opening is at 8 in the morning, when a healthy breakfast is offered, while in the evening until at least 22 you can have dinner (some days the closing lasts even at 23pm). Every day, during and after dinner, they are provided live performances, the restaurant also houses the small contemporary art gallery of Janet and Mac (the Handersons!). On the site you can book a table or consult the menu, as well as know which event is planned for the evening.
Also at the restaurant there is a discount for students, both for lunch and dinner.
Next to St. John's Church (at the intersection of Princes St. and Lothian Rd.) an additional Henderson's was opened, a very large room where events are organized next to a garden overlooking the imposing Castle where you can relax every day until the afternoon .
