In order not to get lost in a city with twenty million inhabitants and as many locals, here is the review of an excellent low cost restaurant in the new part of Delhi.
Delhi, twenty million inhabitants and as many locals where to enjoy excellent dishes. So how do you choose? I must say that we have been very lucky. Our driver took us to a really excellent restaurant. Get ready for lunch, and let you discover this great local in Delhi.
Spicy flavors, the heart of Indian cuisine
In the capital of India it is certainly not difficult to find good food. Whether on the street or in clubs, there is something for all tastes and also for all wallets. The choice is really wide. From Chinese to Indian restaurants. From those Italian to the inevitable street food. The only thing to watch out for is the massive use they make of spices and especially the spicy ones, to which our palates are not so used.
But even here it is solved quickly: in restaurants just ask that the dish be "no spicy", so that you don't find yourself with tears in your eyes with every bite. The system does not always work but in any case they will try to meet the needs of us Westerners who are not used to these delicious flavors.
Hot Chimney, local in New Delhi
The city of Delhi is divided into two areas: Old Delhi and New Delhi. The place where we enjoyed some excellent Indian food is located in the new part of the city, the one built by the British when India was still under their rule. The restaurant is called "Hot Chimney". Here, in addition to serving delicious dishes, the courses are plentiful and the prices really ridiculous. I would say that it is not that easy to find a cheap restaurant with excellent dishes and large portions. Features that we all look for when we go out to eat and for the Hot Chimney are an excellent business card.
The place is not very big. It is divided into two rooms, with small but familiar spaces and therefore welcoming. It will have about ten tables and for this reason it is easy for you to share it with complete strangers with whom to chat.
È mostly frequented by local people but it is also possible to find tourists.
Here it is not possible to book so you may have to wait a few minutes outside the restaurant. So you will be given a number and as soon as a table becomes available you will be seated.
Given Indian standards, the place is clean and equipped with the omnipresent air conditioning system. There are no toilets, but you can find them a little further down the road.
The menu
In the menu you will find typical dishes of Indian cuisine, both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. As anticipated, the portions are generous and tasty, prepared with selected raw materials and spices. The kitchen is divided between the inside of one of the two rooms and the outside of the other, and seeing dishes and people coming and going continuously welcomes you to everyday India comfortably seated at the table while enjoying a delicious Malai kofta or an exceptional Palak Paneer!
In our opinion it is a must when you are nearby, perhaps during a Low Cost travel in Asia!
