The film The Godfather takes place almost entirely in America, in Saint Louis filmed there because it is much cheaper than New York, even if in the film it is made to believe that it also shoots in other parts, such as Las Vegas!
What I want to talk about in this post are the places of Palermo that are taken into consideration during the shooting in the various films of the Godfather that we remember are 3.
Vi I will disappoint immediately, the scenes shot in Corleone and Bagheria are actually turn to Motta Camastra, in Province of Messina, in Forza d'Agrò, also in the province of Messina, in Savoca, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy and Acireale, a small close to Etna. The station where Michael and Key meet in Godfather III is there Taormina station.
For the director Coppola, Corleone in the 70s was already too modern in fact, so much so that it opted for other locations a little more Sicilian. In the Godfather III is the Sicilian home of Michael Corleone which is actually the Castle of the Slaves which is located at Fiumefreddo di Sicilia, in the province of Catania, along the slopes of Etna. It is one of the most evocative castles in the region, a heritage of the 700th century, a great example of Sicilian rural baroque. Michael and Apollonia met a Savoca, province of Messina, where the scenes of the bar (photo above) and the wedding scenes between the two were shot.
We finally arrive at Palermo where two scenes of the Godfather III are shot. The theater where Michael's son, Antony, performs as an opera singer were filmed at Massimo Theater. The scenes of the festivities are filmed in Villa Malfitano.
