Il natural park of Sasso Simone and Simoncello it is located just 40 km from the Romagna and Rimini coast. It is an ideal destination for those looking for a holiday in contact with nature. By extension it straddles the regions of Emilia Romagna and Marche, between the provinces of Rimini and Pesaro Urbino. It is on the border with the homonymous Tuscan reserve which falls within the municipality of Sestino, in the province of Arezzo. The highest peak of the park is Mount Carpegna, 1415 meters, while the two "stones" are at slightly lower altitudes (1200 meters). We are full Montefeltro.
There are many accesses for the walks inside the reserve and they are clearly evident thanks to a sign indicating the distance of the route, travel time and difficulty. There are various territorial offices of the park able to provide all the maps and maps of the case, in particular one a Carpegna, in the province of Pesaro Urbino, and the Pontecappuccini (and IAT) visitor centers of Pietrarubbia e pennabilli (with annexed Naturalistic Museum), in the province of Rimini.
The nature reserve has a remarkable expanse of trees with a strong impact, you will be impressed especially at sunset watching it from above. An ideal set also for photography enthusiasts. The territory of the park is partly also a military polygon and it is also due to them the maintenance of what is one of the largest green lungs in Italy.
Of course the trekking is the master as a sport, but you will also find routes suitable for mountain bike and horse. Do you want to climb the Sassi? This is also possible thanks to a steel cable, from the Marche side starting from the route of the Cantoniera at 900 meters above sea level. Me is a mini via ferrata, mind you. Otherwise from the Tuscan side, starting from the town of Sestino along the Cà Gallo path, the climb will be gentler. Watch out for cows and horses, they are the masters of the territory. There are many particularities to tell, but in the meantime, know that it is forbidden to collect fossils around the two Sassi and that above the Simoncello, where a large iron cross is positioned, once there was an ancient fortress designed by Cosimo de 'Medici of which only a few traces remain.
If you campers, you will find the best equipped areas in Carpegna, the Marche side of the park, but also in Cantoniera there is a large square (not asphalted) where you can place your vehicle.
The territory is waiting to be discovered, and there is no lack of the possibility to refresh ourselves in some restaurant / trattoria in the area. But this is another story… On the park's website (www.parcosimone.it) you can still see the various structures of the park, where you can find hospitality or the best excursion and rest areas.
