In the last few days with my family I have always been "around" between Venice and Mestre: here it is not always easy to find a place where you can eat really well, especially on Easter days, when the city is invaded by the mass of tourists who occupy the best places. After a couple of culinary "flops" in recent days today, just before my parents left to go home, we stopped a bit by chance at theOsteria Lupo Nero from Mestre, I had never been there but on the advice of a friend we decided to try and I must say that I stayed definitely satisfied. It is located in a small square right next to the main Piazza Ferretto, more precisely in via Giorgio Ferro 21, a few steps from the Candiani Center.
Il local it is simple and without frills, the style is that of a trattoria: all furnished in dark wood with Spartan tables and benches, divided by booths that I found comfortable and functional, there is no shortage of seating. The menu from which to choose is varied and offers in particular traditional Venetian and Venetian dishes, also enriched by simple proposals for all tastes, to which are added the dishes of the day: to give examples we have taken gnocchi with vegetables, bigoli in anchovy sauce, pasta and chickpeas, pasta with gorgonzola and Venetian-style liver. Everything seemed really good and genuine: nothing articulate, but tasty dishes and right portions. Among other things, it is also possible to enter just to consume a shadow of wine and some good snacks at the counter or sitting at the tables outside, perfect for those who want to have a taste of local cuisine without necessarily having dinner or lunch, the atmosphere here is not it can be more "local".
We concluded with a truly homemade tiramisu (which is not always obvious!) And some delicious slices of Venetian focaccia with chocolate chips, all accompanied by house wine. The final price is more than honest (for a first course + a second course with wine, water and coffee, the cost is up 30€) and the waitresses were very nice.
Since lately more and more people are choosing to stay in Mestre to save a little on accommodation, it is also good to know that here you can also find excellent restaurants, the atmosphere will not be the same but the dishes pay off the "distance" from the romantic Venetian canals. What about the Osteria del Lupo Nero is absolutely recommended!
