Pitlochry: Chiara's Scotland, a journey into nature

Pitlochry: Chiara's Scotland, a journey into nature

It's been several months since mine trip to Scotland, so I think it's time to tell you about the Victorian village of Pitlochry. I had the opportunity to visit it as the last stop of the beautiful tour organized by Timberbush in which I participated (I'll tell you about it later in another post, I promise.). I had already made arrangements with the organization, so instead of returning to Glasgow, the city of departure and arrival, I stopped here.

Pitlochry is a strategic point in the middle of Scottish countryside and it is great for discovering the area and experiencing the real local atmosphere. I stayed in the welcoming Morag Cottage, a small one at the northern entrance of the village: the room was large and with everything you needed, the bathroom was external but private and right next to the room. The price was definitely good. About € 35 per person in a double room with breakfast… and what a breakfast. Even just by visiting the website you can get an idea and I assure you that it is so, if not better. Everything is freshly prepared by the landlady with so much love. The owners are very helpful and there is the possibility to park the car or leave the luggage even after the check-out time. It feels right at home.

From this small center you can visit, as we did, the marvelous one Queen's View, a viewpoint considered the best in Scotland, also reachable by bus in a short time. Here is a small and delicious tearoom which offers simple typical dishes: what better place to enjoy a good one soup with sandwich or scones with jam?

The possibilities nearby are many (Loch Rannoch, reachable by school buses, the Pass of Killiecrankie and Blair Castle to name just three. ), but even in the village on foot or by bicycle there is no risk of getting bored: we have traveled the banks of the Tummel, seen the Salmon Staircase and visited the museum of the great dam. Another option for beer enthusiasts is to visit Eradour the most small distillery of Scotland, and the Blair Atholl distillery.

Il Pitlochry festival theater moreover it proposes, in a season that goes from May to October, classical dramas, concerts and much more. The small town of Moulin can be the destination of a pleasant walk (uphill.) In the midst of tranquility, to reward yourself at the end with a stop at the Moulin Pub. If you prefer a tearoom in the main street of Potlochry you can try the inviting Hettie's Tearoom, has a very nice and colorful environment and offers fantastic dishes, different every day and sweets of all kinds to be accompanied with a hot tea.

From this town you can also easily reach the main Scottish cities both with train both in bus, we have in fact chosen this solution to reach Edinburgh: always check in advance the promotions that are offered by Megabus at incredible prices. An excellent ally in organizing travel throughout Scotland is Traveline Scotland. For me it was essential, in fact it brings together all the timetables of the many transport companies.

Local transport is managed by different operators, here are all the lines and timetables.
