If you are a mountain lover, long descents with a pair of skis (or why not, a snowboard!) On your feet, a breathtaking view, hot chocolates accompanied by a slice of berry tart, well in your list of places mountain to visit can not miss the fascination Cortina d'Ampezzo. Surrounded by extraordinary peaks, frequenting not only in winter but also in summer thanks to the suggestive walks through the paths immersed in the Ampezzo woods, Cortina is the queen of The Dolomites, unique mountains in the world declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
But let's start from the beginning. Personally, I have stayed for several years in campground; several are immersed in the green mountains, are very large, offer various services (bathrooms, bars, restaurants, playgrounds for children, etc. ..) and, thanks to the landscape, are very suggestive. But for those who prefer comfort to adventure, there is no shortage of hotels in Cortina! Just take a simple walk to find all kinds of hotels: from super luxury to slightly cheaper ones!
We now come to the more technical part. As true lovers of winter sports, how can I forget i winter olympic games of 1956? How can we forget those lifts, those slopes and those landscapes that make Cortina, still today, one of the most popular destinations for lovers of skiing and not. Cortina allows you to ski in the midst of the most evocative peaks of the Dolomites, it offers adrenaline-pumping descents, but also panoramic, for all types of difficulty. From the most experienced mountaineer to the beginner skier, everyone can find their place in Cortina d'Ampezzo.
For those who love tranquility, the best and least hectic time to go is the one following the Epiphany. You will have the possibility to choose between three different sides: that of Faloria-Crystal, that of Tofans, and if you move a little higher than Pocol, that of Five Towers.
As for the Faloria side, this can be reached from the center thanks to the cable car which starts from the square of the old railway station and which in a few minutes reaches the Faloria refuge, which offers a spectacular view. Like any area, you will find more "simple" slopes and more "complicated" slopes for the more experienced, but always surrounded by a breathtaking panorama. If we go down to Rio Gere, crossing the road, we will find the ski lift for Monte Cristallo.
Next to the ice rink instead, the "Arrow in the sky”, The cable car that will take you to the top of the Tofane. The main runway is theOlimpia delle Tofane, which hosts the women's World Cup runs every year. Going down towards Pocol, you will find very wide and easy slopes, excellent for those who are learning.
Finally, if from Pocol you will move towards step Falzarego , through a ski bus service (available throughout Cortina) you will arrive at the Cinque Torri, with some red runs to be able to descend.
Each peak offers different shelters, all with typical dishes, mountain and not, nothing short of excellent and recommended for those who, after a long descent, want to rest a bit.
The only flaw of this mountain resort is that not all lifts are covered.
