Do you want to visit Sydney but are not a walker? Do you want to see the whole city but are you chronically lazy? Here are the tips to see the best of Sydney without getting too tired.
Sydney It is a city that gives its best when explored on foot: splendid beaches, enchanting coastal walks, lush parks on the bay. But what if we travel with children, elderly people, or just lazy friends?
It is the challenge that I faced a few weeks ago. A colleague of mine, who was expecting a visit from her mother and grandmother, turned to me for ideas about activities to do and places to see in Sydney that didn't involve great walks. Here are my 5 proposals.
The bar
Until a few months ago I wasn't even aware of this place, discovered thanks to a visiting friend who couldn't wait to try it out. L'The bar it is located at 47th floor of a building in the center of Sydney, and while having a drink or dinner, the whole plane rotates on itself to offer a 360 degree city view without taking a step.
High tea
Now a ritual in Sydney, thehigh tea it includes 2-3 hours spent sipping tea (but also coktails or sparkling wine) and enjoying cakes, cupcakes, scones plus other savory treats, served on a 3-tier tray.
Among the best tea rooms where you can enjoy an excellent high tea combined with an elegant environment and super professional staff:
- The Gunners Barracks tea room (Mosman), from which to enjoy an unbeatable view of the city
- The Tea Room, in the Queen Victoria Building (central Sydney)
- The Victoria Room (Darlinghurst) with its 4 package offer, starting at $ 45 AUD
Sightseeing bus
Another super passive way to see the city is to sit comfortably in a bus while it takes us around the most popular places.
The Sydney-Bondi explorer tour includes 90 minutes of city tour, plus 90 minutes in Bondi, Sydney's most famous beach, passing through Double Bay, Rose Bay, Vaucluse and Dover Heights, which are the most exclusive and expensive areas of Sydney (one look at the breathtaking view and you will understand why).
The tour is complete with an explanation of the monuments and neighborhoods, available in 7 languages (Italian not included), and provides the ability to get on and off at will for 24 or 48 hours, depending on the ticket chosen.
Botanic Gardens Choo Choo train
I Sydney botanical gardens are a must to visit, not only for the beauty of the park itself, but also for the view over the bay which includes theOpera House and l 'Harbour Bridge. Since our tour for lazy people does not involve great walks, I found the expedient to visit it without much effort: the choo choo train. The train takes a 25-minute tour in the park, with 4 stops where you can get off, admire the view, and then wait half an hour for the next train.
The tour includes an explanation of the park and the bay, and coast 10 $ AUD for adults and 5 for children.
Sydney Harbor Mini Cruise
Another super convenient activity is to board a ferry for a mini cruise in the bay and admire the city in all its beauty.
There are tours for all tastes and budgets: for breakfast, lunch or dinner, sunset tours, ancient vessels and pirate ships, tours with unlimited drinks and even with themed shows. But the cheapest one is the public ferry which goes to Manly which for the modest sum of $ 8,50 AUD offers you 30 minutes of views of the bay and the city skyline that have nothing to envy to the most expensive tours.
