The monument a London it is located on Monument Street, more or less opposite St. Paul Cathedral. Each monument has its own story and reading about this monument interested me so much that I want to tell you about it. The Monument tells of one of the most important events in London, the terrible fire which devastated a good part of the English city in 1666 which was triggered by a baker not far from the place where the monument is located on September 2nd and which was only extinguished on September 5th. The Column if you notice well symbolizes one torch.
The Monument was created by the architect Christopher Wren, between 1671 and 1677, which is visited by over 150.000 visitors every year. Visitors have to climb a really "difficult" and narrow spiral staircase made of 311 steps but once you get to the top the view is priceless. The entrance fee for adults is £ 3.
The Monument is open from 9.30 to 17.30, last entry at 17, closed from 24 to 26 December.
