If we think aboutHolland We immediately think of canals, bicycles, tulips, cheeses and most likely the most famous Amsterdam, but all this and much more can also be found in The Hague (The Hague). It is an important city, located in South Holland (Zuid Holland), easily reachable from Schipol airport directly by train, which boasts about 500.000 inhabitants, many of whom are foreigners and employed by important international organizations present in the area, such as the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice, as well as all foreign embassies.
For this Den Haag is internationally known as the city of peace and justice and in 2013 we celebrate the 100 years of the Peace Palace (Vredespaleis), which houses this institution and can be visited on weekends by reservation.
In addition, the Royal Palace is located in the center where the Royal House of Holland resides almost all year round, skilfully mixing with fellow villagers, as the Palace is surrounded by important shopping streets. In fact, if you feel like shopping, Den Haag is the place to go, come on Spuistraat and in the neighboring streets, you can find a bit of everything: costume jewelery, big brands and vintage and youth fashion… try it!
Then go towards Chinatown, where the typical scents and colors of China will overwhelm you, while you will be amazed at the countless Asian-style hairdressers and supermarkets.
If you are in the cultural mood you cannot miss the Mauritshuis Museum, a famous art gallery where you can get lost for hours admiring some very important paintings, among all "Girl with a turban”By Jan Vermeer.
Finally, treat yourself to a view of its wonderful skyline where you can admire some of the most important Dutch ministries, with their funny nicknames: yes, in Den Haag there is also the Parliament.
And if all this is not enough for you with a tram you can easily reach the sea, in fact, Den Haag, unlike Amsterdam, does not miss anything, as it also has huge stretches of sand which make up the beach of Scheveningen, where important beach volleyball tournaments are held every summer and where the most daring take a bath braving the wind and waves of the North Sea.
Dine in one of its restaurants on the harbor, where you will taste fish and freshly caught oysters, while life passes slowly on the countless boats docked on the pier.
You still have time to enjoy the Prinsjesdag (Prince's Day) in which the King, who walks the streets of the city in a golden carriage, is read by the government program and which is a great celebration for all Dutch people. The third Tuesday of September is approaching, don't miss it!
