If you love cities to cycle around and characterized by different natures: this post is just for you!
I chose to do a trip to Copenhagen because I have always imagined it as a city full of colors and modernity, but at the same time characterized by castles and historical and ancient places.
Bicycle: a way of life
It is a city that I recommend to visit traveling by bicycle why there the bike is a real lifestyle, there are cycle paths everywhere, which cross the entire city, as wide as the lanes for cars, in this way you will have the opportunity to get into the heart of the place and feel a little closer to the inhabitants.
1. The Little Mermaid: symbol of Copenhagen
Perhaps one of Copenhagen's most famous attractions is undoubtedly The little Mermaid, located on the seafront of the city, absorbed in her thoughts and with a slightly nostalgic expression, and if you know the story you can imagine why.
2. Rosenborg Castle
One of the things I liked most about Copenhagen is the Rosenborg Castle, one of the oldest buildings, in Renaissance style and located in the city center. Today the castle is the seat of the Museum of the Danish Royal Collections, in fact inside you can visit the Crown Jewels.
It is a very suggestive place, surrounded by a wonderful garden, that is the king's garden and next to it you can also visit theAmalienborg Museum, where the royal collection.
3. Nyhavn: pulsating neighborhood
But if you really want to discover and delve into the beating heart of Copenhagen I recommend you rent a bike: there is an app called Donkey Republic, which allows you to rent bikes throughout the city. But not only that, this app is also used a lot in neighboring countries such as Belgium or Sweden.
You can go to the neighborhood of Nyhavn, a small port area characterized by colorful Danish-style houses overlooking the shore, ancient wooden boats that line the banks, but also places where you can have an aperitif or dinner.
4. Tour of the canals
Speaking of the port area, I also recommend that you do the tour of the canals with one of the many tours that start right from Nyhavn.
This is a very special tour in which you can admire both the famous design area, where the Black Diamond, part of the Royal Library, and theOpera House, and both the slightly more historical and military part.
5. Free State of Christiania
Now, on the other hand, I want to tell you about one of the things that intrigued me most about Copenhagen, that is Christiania, in Danish Fristaden Christiania, or the Free State of Christiania, in a nutshell is a district that declared itself autonomous in the 70s of the last century, it is located in the Christianshavn area, I always got there by bike taking a very pleasant walk.
I must tell you that as soon as I saw this place I had a slightly peculiar feeling, as if I were for a moment out of Copenhagen, it is a totally self-managed neighborhood, there is an almost unnatural calm and tranquility, it is a mix of warehouses, shacks and colorful murals.
Tourists are accepted, you can stop for a coffee, listen to live music, but at the same time it is a somewhat controversial area, especially for the sale of soft drugs, so it is very important to go to this place with the intent of follow the Do's and Don't signs carefully places at the entrance, such as the ban on running, talking on mobile phones and above all photography is not allowed within the neighborhood.
In summary, Copenhagen is a colorful city, in which antiquity and modernity intersect, where you can do different activities, everything is within reach, and even the tourist attractions can be easily visited on foot or by bike.
The important thing is to endure a little bit of the cold that characterizes even the most pleasant seasons such as spring and let yourself be guided by instinct, I am sure that this fantastic city will remain in your heart!
