Five things to do in Calabria, what to taste, what to buy and what to see from Tropea to Capo Vaticano for a low cost and beautiful trip.
You would like to visit the splendid coasts of Calabria, but you don't know where to start? Calabria is one of the most beautiful regions rich in scenic and cultural beauties. Much of its land is bathed by the sea, and the long stretches of the coast preserve suggestive beaches and inlets. Each Costa has a different name and today I want to tell you about the Coast of the Gods, Also called Costa Bella.
It extends in the southern part of the Tyrrhenian Sea and includes the entire province of Vibo Valencia. The so-called horn of Calabria, scattered with beaches of fine sand and a crystalline sea that fascinated me right away. Here 5 things to do and to see in the Costa degli Dei which I hope can be an inspiration to plan a holiday in that of Calabria.
1. Look out from the terraces of Tropea
Tropea it's the prettiest town I've ever been able to meet. A small favor on the sea. The historic center, albeit tiny, is full of churches and noble palaces from the most diverse eras. The peculiarity of Tropea are the balconies and buildings overlooking the sea.
The narrow and suggestive streets lead to these wonderful views and small squares. It is not uncommon that after walking through its narrow streets, you find yourself having to stop, looking out as if from a terrace but this time what you are in front of is a panorama to take your breath away. From the center you can slowly reach the sea where you can easily reach the strip of fine beach and the crystal clear sea and from there looking up there is Tropea, which from its overhang seems to protect the sea and which resides there even for a few hours.
From the beach it is impossible to lose sight of the huge promontory which is the symbol of the town and which is the first image that is found on all postcards. A tuff promontory where the sanctuary of Santa Maria dell'Isola stands. In the evening, the historic center teems with life among typical shops and cheerful people. The terrace of the Tyrrhenian Sea, as this beautiful town is called, will amaze you with every view of the sea.
2. Let yourself be influenced by Capo Vaticano
Continuing south of the Costa degli Dei you arrive at Capo Vaticano, whose name derives from a granite promontory, much studied by paleontologists. Here, specimens of dwarf palm and giant fern are born in every corner. A highly suggestive place due to the presence of an unparalleled naturalistic path. Those who pass through Capo Vaticano and want to fully enjoy the beauty of the place cannot fail to take the panoramic path with lighthouse. From here, you will be entranced by the beauty of the landscape and no photos can do justice to what your eyes will see.
3. Relax on the beach of Parghelia
Closer to Tropea, north of the Costa degli Dei, Parghelia is the perfect destination if you want to spend a few hours by the sea. A perfect combination of fine sand and rock, bathing in the waters of Parghelia is a pleasure. The water is very light green and it is fun to swim among the huge rocks that break the monotony of the seascape.
Here you can also find many accommodations that make it a tourist destination of great attraction, after Tropea.
4. Taste the 'nduja
If you are in Calabria, you cannot miss something spicy. There 'nduja it is the spicy salami par excellence, it is produced in the Tyrrhenian area but is widespread throughout Calabria. It is a soft salami flavored with chilli. It can be bought almost everywhere in Calabria and is usually enjoyed on slices of toasted bread. If you love strong flavors, 'nduja is for you.
5. Buy the Tropea red onion
The classic red onion that is so good in summer salads. I tasted it in a different and somewhat unusual way: on pizza! Yes, the proverbial kindness of the hosts where I was a guest in Tropea, manifested itself with the offer of a pizza with red onions, a truly unusual but really tasty combination! Buy them if you come to Tropea, you will not regret it.
I hope that these ideas have made you want to leave and visit the Costa degli Dei, whose name has not been put by chance, between the splendid sea and good food, here you can really live like the gods.
