The splendid Amalfi Coast has a lot to give, here's what to do in Sorrento in a weekend, spending little and never getting bored!

And here we are with another destination to explore, also this time Italian. Here are some tips if you want to spend a weekend in Sorrento, a beautiful town on the Amalfi Coast.

How to reach us

Getting to Sorrento is very simple.

From Naples, take the hydrofoil to Sorrento from Molo Beverello or the regional train from the central station; if you have a car, just follow the signs for the city.

What to do in a weekend in Sorrento

There are so many experiences and things to do in Sorrento.

You can go on excursions, city center tours, cultural tourism, shopping, lively evenings, good food or relax on the beach. You choose how long and how to stay, however a weekend is more than enough to immerse yourself in most of the experiences on a budget.

Here is a typical list of what you could do and see in a weekend in Sorrento.

1. The Baths of Queen Giovanna

Bagni della Regina Giovanna are one of the most intriguing hidden beaches in Sorrento.
Now abundantly frequented by tourism, you should visit them away from seasonal crowding. The baths can be reached by bus in the direction of Capo di Sorrento; from here a short, well-marked path will lead you to the baths.

2. Piazza Tasso

The central Piazza Tasso is a city meeting point and home to numerous local activities (bars, restaurants, shops, pubs…).
I recommend it especially in the evening, when it comes alive with people and music from the various clubs surrounding yourself with an air of celebration.

3. The Cloister of San Francesco

The Cloister of San Francesco is one of the oldest monuments in Sorrento. Splendid arches surround the cloister framed by truly beautiful plants and flowers. The cloister is also suitable for a relaxing stop, where you can rest in the cool of the arches, perhaps reading a book overlooking the courtyard.

4. Raffaele Celentano Gallery

The exhibition was a really nice discovery!

Going up to the second floor of the Cloister of San Francesco you will have access (for the price of 5 €), to this exceptional photographic exhibition.

I strongly advise you not to miss this exhibition, both for the quality of the images and for the location (the room has access to a terrace with a splendid life!)

A truly unique emotion overall.

5. The Villa Comunale

The villa stands on the gardens of the Franciscan friars and was built between the years 1877 and 1879.
Above it overlooks the Celentano Gallery, behind it the Cloister.

From the Villa you will have a view of the "bathrooms" to the sea that you can reach with a staircase or with a paid lift (I, as a good low-cost traveler, chose the stairs).

6. The Vallone dei Mulini

Vallone dei Mulini is a valley that owes its name to the presence of a mill used for grinding wheat. Honestly it is not that it is who knows what, but it is still "suggestive" to see this abandoned mill that rises from a valley covered with greenery.

7. Corso Italia

The central course of Sorrento is home to bars and artisan and non-artisan shops. Animated both day and evening, it becomes really characteristic during the evening with the lights.

For an even more dense experience, sneak into the side streets of the Corso.

8. The Cathedral of Sorrento

The Cathedral of Santi Filippo e Giacomo is a monumental church in Sorrento; with a beautiful interior, you absolutely cannot miss it.

Accomodation

My choice fell on The Four Squares, 78 € in a double room for one night with breakfast included.
Honestly great value for money; comfortable and clean rooms; and an all in all central location (a ten minute drive from the center).

Where to eat

Obviously you will be spoiled for choice and every palate will be satisfied; However, I would like to recommend two places to enjoy good food at a good quality / price ratio: Acqu'e Sale and Lieve.

As always, if you have travel suggestions, they are always welcome.

That's it for now, see you soon!
