5 things to do in Arezzo in a weekend

What to do in Arezzo in a weekend, 5 tips between things to see, do and taste for a low cost holiday in Tuscany, read here.

In April I spent a weekend in Arezzo and I must say that I was pleasantly struck by this city, as indeed by all the other Tuscan cities I have visited so far. The historic center is not large so two days are enough to see it with tranquility.

If you want, you can leave the car in the parking lot just outside the walls and then enter inside on foot thanks to the escalators (convenient if you have suitcases), the parking is half free and half paid (5 € all day). Once you reach the center, here are some tips on what to do and visit.

The first tip, given the modest size of the city, is to stroll through the alleys of the village without a map, without a precise destination but only walking along the many streets that cross Arezzo; you will be amazed by the beautiful views that you will see and that you can photograph. Also if you are a lover ofantique trade in Arezzo you will have plenty of fun, in fact you will find many dedicated shops, and every first weekend of the month in the central square Antiques Fair with more than 400 banquets.

Make a stop in Piazza Grande; the frame that surrounds this square located in the heart of the city is truly suggestive: arcades, the Palazzo delle Logge, the Palazzo del Tribunale, the apse of the Pieve di Santa Maria; it is really worth sitting and spectating while admiring this beautiful view.

Arezzo also, being one art City, hosts some churches that deserve to be visited; in my opinion the most spectacular is the Duomo, very impressive but at the same time simple. The Church of San Domenico which houses the Crucifix by Cimabue, the Church of San Francesco inside which is the "Legend of the True Cross" by Piero della Francesca, the parish church of Santa Maria very particular thanks to the bell tower of the "hundred holes" for the many windows that are there. In addition to the very famous churches is also the Petrarch's house.

At lunchtime, if you want to take advantage of a nice day to eat something outdoors without spending too much, I recommend a sandwich from Panini & Co.; here you will find a wide range of sandwiches and excellent quality ingredients. Opposite is Piazza Sant 'Agostino where you can enjoy your lunch. For dinner instead I suggest the Luck da Luchino restaurant where typical dishes with km 0 ingredients are served, very much appreciated and good.
Both places are located in the central area therefore easily reachable on foot.

Follow the itinerary of the places used as the setting for some scenes of the Roberto Benigni "Life is Beautiful". There are at least a dozen places in the center of Arezzo where scenes from this masterpiece film were shot. Including the Piazza del Duomo, Piazza Grande, the Basilica of San. Francis.
