Proposals for the weekend, you know, there is always a need and on Lake Maggiore there is always so little worldliness that the next weekend 19-20 October deserves a special mention.
Arona, a small town on the south coast of the lake hosts an event not to be missed: The unification of Italy at the table. It is a food and wine tour organized by Arte Group on a national scale on the occasion of the celebrations for the 150 years of the unification of Italy and still in vogue. The various regions of Italy will be protagonists in Piazza San Graziano to present and disseminate their culinary specialties; the opportunity will be offered to first taste and then buy rich foods from our territory. It will be a bit like taking a tour of Italy all in one breath, giving authentic delicacies to the palate which will be followed, for sure, by a walk on the deserving Marconi lakefront, and then off to the shops of the course - what the Aronese call "the budello ”which, however narrow it may be, offers shops with the best brands alternating with interesting and various places for a snack: from pastry to chocolate, from tea room to yoghurt, not to mention ice cream parlors and traditional historic bars.
Right at the bottom of the course it opens Piazza del Popolo, pedestrian and lakefront, and that's where I suggest you stop for an aperitif. There is Strobino, a bakery with a modern concept: own production and openness to a dynamic public who knows how to appreciate sweets and savory dishes and which offers the best for an aperitif. The cocktails are made very well and the vast selection of wines will satisfy even the most demanding, highly recommended!
